Drive Backup Software?

I'm looking for some sort of hard drive backup or imaging software that I can use in the following way:

Plug in an external DVD 16x USB burner then Boot to a CD on the PC. The software would load, and I could backup the hard drive to the DVD burner - maybe several media used.

Later I could plug in the external USB DVD burner, boot to the CD again and restore all the data from the DVD to the hard drive.

Does such software exist? I don't want to install anything to the OS.

Thanks

Never been a fan of the ghost, for imaging and back up I have always used Acronis True Image.

A friend of mine turned me on to it a few years back as it was the only software that would do a back up and restore over a RAID. Also, for most of the plants that I visit it seems the IT guys are using this in the labs for all the computers that are there.

    Hope that helps,

    How about Win7's backup?

I use Ghost 14 and am quite pleased. Ghost has had some good and some bad releases over the years, but this one is good.

I have been considering trying Acronis. Probably should have gotten it when is was BF special at newegg. But I have been using Cobain Backup for regular back-ups not actual drive imaging.

I probably had one of the first versions of ghost. It drove me crazy as it always kept the HD spinning doing something in the background. Would also cause some lag when I was gaming too. Sounds like they got it figured out.

I don't have the newest version of Acronis, but the backups are done as an intial image, and then increments are added to it. I've had to use the backup once and it worked flawlessly.
