I have a pair of RT3000p since new and one of the amps on the sub went out. I looked into replacing it through Polk with cost is around 500 for the 300watt amp. (I may look on Ebay or Audiogon- nothing at the moment) I was wondering if I should just replace the amp to the factory spec one or or for that price consider running an Adcom Amp around 200-300watts/channel. I have 5 Adcom amps and currently use two mono blocks (Adcom 565) on the tops of the RT3000p. I also have a pair of SDA 1.2Tl bi-amped by a 555II and 545II Adcom. I am just wondering for the money if I should just switch it out for a regular amp? I use a Sunfire Grand 3 for the Preamp. I am using the RT3000p for my rears of my surround system. To balance the sound I would consider running each sub off the same Adcom amp. More than likely a Adcom 5800 or 5802 250watt per channel or just going to another set of 300watt mono blocks 565's. Worst case would be just one 555II 200/channel.

Just wondering if the 300watt amp in the speakers worthing getting again? Not to knock Polk I am a huge fan- I have only Polk and Adcom in my house.

Why not send in the amp for repair?

Or do a search in the search box and you might see where a member has one for sale..

I did a search and it appears that there are not any on the flea market. However, you mentioned try to get the amp fixed. Do you mean send it in to Polk or something locally. (do you think they can get the parts, estimated cost). Also, quality of the amp? Would the Polk amp out perform an Adcom amp? I just don't want to take it somewhere and pay an upfront fee to tell me they can't fix it. I know I can get an amp from Polk around $500 new, I can get used Adcom amps for the same price a dime a dozen and I would then power both subs with it. The only issue I have is running more speaker wire, plus I would need to do a Y-connector to run another amp at the same time as the tops, or I can use the LFE sub out and run one for each channel of the Amp and use the Sunfire for the crossover to control the signal to around 100hz. However I do have a passive crossover laying around somewhere. Or is that just nuts and I should just either fix or replace the amp. I do appreciate your thoughts and comments to far. I was a Polk club member a few years back when I was looking to get a pair of 1.2tls, but I forget my login and password so I started a new one thanks.

Your the second person looking for an amp in a month. Both don't seem to want to spend much to have it fixed right. Don't you know those speakers listed at 1800.00 EACH?

I know they have age on em and all but man, I thought about another amp too but club price is only 375.00 I think until they're gone. A tech. at POLK could probably fix it cheaper than that maybe.

I thought doing a search would turn up ME mentioning my spare amp for sale in another thread that was completely ignored. Why?, I don't know.. I thought that's what he was looking for. Maybe the price was WAY more than he even wanted to acknowledge it being posted in his thread,I don't know.

I know people who can cut costs and rig stuff(I've done alittle too) but do you really want to when a used amp made for these could be bought for around 200 and new 375? That's a saving of 1400. from original cost.

It was a no brainer for me and I didn't have the money but I charged 2 of them and made payments. There were 20 left and I bought 2 so that left 18.I don't know how many new ones they have left now but you should try to put a working Polk amp that's made for them for your fix. The speakers are so special and I hope you repair yours ,get a used working one or buy a new one and save one for later.
Try to keep them original please.;)

I did not realize they are 375.00 new. For that price, I am going to call Polk tomorrow and see if I can get one. You said there were 18 left as of when, just recently? I think at one time they were 500 or so. Thanks for your help.

They were 750 5 yrs. ago I think. But if your a club member, they give us discounts on things. They just don't volunteer that discount to the public. Members usually hook up new members to that fact.

Good luck and let me know how many they have now. Could be the same.
    Thanks , Tony

I called Polk Service today, they said they have never heard of that price point of $375.00 I was quoted $700.00 with the Forum discount is $560.00. They tought maybe that price point was from a 3rd party site - Ebay or something, but not Polk direct. I may just have it serviced. I am not sure what it will cost. Maybe it will only be around 200 or so, just guessing. What number did you call to get the new amps at 375.00 any contact person? Thanks.

I'll look for the date now in a search.

I can't give a name right now. It might incriminate him/her.

    polkrt3000p,

While servicing the amplifier will be generally a more cost effective solution our pricing policies are regulated so that we can serve our customer most effectively, I have spoken to the Polk rep you spoke to this morning reguarding your situation. I would still recommend sending the amplifier in for evaluation as it may be much cheaper to repair than replace, however in the event that you choose to replace the amplifier please contact me directly at Kshufelt@polkaudio.com or via Tele @ 1-800-377-7655 ext:410. Im positive that I will be able to accomadate your situation on pricing more effectively ;)

Hi polk, welcome to the club. About 2 years ago, I had one of my RT3000 amps go out. It ended up being bad capacitors. I drove it to the repair center in San Diego so my repair bill didn't include shipping costs (you should definitely pack well and insure at full replacement value). Total cost to repair the amp was under $70 and about a 25 minute wait while the work was completed. Great experience with Polk CS and highly recommended.

Just waiting to hear back from Kyle from Polk. I will then decide on repairing or replacing. It sound like repairing maybe a cost affective way at this time.

Talked to Kyle at Polk today. He took care of me. What great customer service. I ordered two amps so I have one as a backup. It sounds like they may even get it sent out today. Excellent work Klye. This is why I have been a Polk fan for over 20 years. I like how Klye stepped in on his own on this and took care of it. Kudos to you man. Also thank you to the guys on the forum, I know where to go when I have a problem. I am looking forward in hearing it all work well again, I should be good to go for another 10 years or so. Thanks everyone.

You may need to subtract 2. Had 2 on my porch when I got back from GA for my brother-in-laws wedding. Good thing I didn't know how close I was going to be to those vintage speakers that went for $900. Well, hope to get my 3000's working tommorrow...
