A couple of weeks ago I mentioned here that I had just ordered some Polk speakers. I got them in about 10 days ago and am totally satisfied. We are about to paint our living room but my wife won't let me start until after the Holidays, so I didn't put in the side speakers yet, just the rear. As a reminder, here's what I have:

Monitor 60 Front
CS1 Center
RC60i Rear and Sides (Sides not installed yet.)
PSW505 Sub

Here are some photos.

I realize these aren't Polk's highest end speakers, but it was what my budget could afford. In fact, if they weren't discontinued and highly discounted I wouldn't have them now. Speakers are way over priced and the return for dollar is logarithmic. With good speakers you are 90% there; with exceptional speakers you are 99%. But that extra 9% costs thousands. Not sure if my point is coming across, but oh well.

I really like these speakers. I can crank them without the mids and highs becoming harsh and irritating. More then a few times I found myself not realizing how loud the music was because the clarity with good source material was awesome. Speaking of source material, I can really hear how bad some of my collection is now. My old speakers were starting to sound muddy so I didn't realize how bad some of this stuff was (I knew in the back of my head, but wouldn't admit it), although a lot of it is cherished bad encoding or not. :)

The PSW505 sub does a wonderful job of filling in the low end. No, it doesn't play down to 20Hz but with -3db at 28Hz it's does the job admirably. There are times when the bass is subtle and blends in when something is mixed that way, but it thunders to life when it's called upon. Doing bass tests it makes my house vibrate literally. But the cabinet doesn't and is solid. I'm using the LFE input and I have my receiver's crossover set to 80Hz with the front speakers set to small. The bass compliments the 60s perfectly. I had originally ordered a pair of 70s but when I saw the deal on this sub I canceled them and got the 60s. I'm glad I did now, not only because the savings almost paid for the sub but I think it's a better match sonically. Now if I could have I would have gotten the 70s and 2 subs. That would rock. :D

The whole setup had an MSRP of $1840 and an original street price of around $1500. I got all 8 speakers for $750. I don't think you could even come close with any brand for that price. I think these speakers are great, discontinued or not. I am glad I got them.

Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading my ramblings. Later.
