How to get the most out of RT1000i speakers

I currently have a pair of RT1000i speaks which im using as the fronts in my 7.1 set-up. the speakers are just hooked up with speaker wire, no bi-amping. since these speakers have built in powered subs, should i consider hooking them up any other way? the manual talks about using a rca cable from the sub out of the amp to the input of one speaker and then using another linking one speaker to the other, using the out in the speaker. should i replace my jumper plates with some good old speaker wire?

    Welcome to CP gbot!

I have the same towers so let me clear things up a bit for you.

There is no "bi-amping" here because the second set of binding posts that are provided for your built-in subs merely collect the signal to be played. It in no form provides any extra amplification to your built in subs or midrange/tweeter so I doubt that replacing the jumpers would benefit at all.

I did however find that I was able to tame and 'tweak' the bass output/cross-over levels via AVR when I hooked the subs up using the RCA ins/outs. Keep in mind though that when you do this, you'll want the jumpers removed.

Thank you for the information kawizx9r. When you hooked them up using RCAs did you use the sub out on the back of your amp? where you still able to hook up a sperate powered sub? does this set up result in louder, better bass?

steveinaz, what would be the best location for these speakers?

Well, I've had different receivers throughout the entire time I've owned these tower speakers.

Most of the time I just ran one tower from the receivers LFE/Subwoofer-out and into one of the towers inputs. From there I ran another cord from that towers out and into the other tower.

Just recently, someone auditioned them (got them up for sale) and I had them hooked up via preamp outputs (my preamp doesn't have an LFE/subwoofer out) and they sound just as good. I simply prefer the rca line in choice over speaker wire or binding posts.

Btw, speaker placement is critical! I'd say experiment and stick with whatever sounds best!

For that I just ran one separate rca cable from each channel (L R preamp outputs) to each sub.

    Btw, you're welcome!

Uhm, I owned a 2805 and never had any problems using it's preamp outputs....then again I used a separate amp to power my front speakers as well.

If you're using this for HT, and don't have a dedicated sub then just use the LFE/Sub out so you can have access to the cross-over levels. If you do have a dedicated sub, you can always daisy-chain.

Depends on your room, distance to the speakers, amount of toe-in etc. Experiment with different spacing and toe-in. Try to get them at least 10" off the back wall if workable.

Messing with speaker placement will yield far more change than bi-wiring.

kawizx9r I have tried both ways now. and both resulted in lower preformance from these speakers.

You do have the jumper plates removed from the binding posts right? That's to include not having any speaker wire connected to the bottom portion?

yep, no jumper posts. i even tried just hooking up sub out from the amp into one of the speakers at a time and still no difference.

Is the 'lower performance' actually lower performance or does it just sound 'quieter' ?

I have my sub volume at a little less than 1/2 (11-12 o'clock). I'm thinking that maybe you've got it set at less than that since you had your subs hooked up via speaker wire/jumpers.

I tried changing the sub volume. still nothing. what i mean by low performance is that they sounded alot more louder and powerful with the spearwire hook up then when i switched over to the rca for the subs and speaker wire for the mid and tweater

You got the subs hooked up the right way correct? Both the towers have an RCA input and output. If it isn't that then I'm at a loss really....maybe something in your AVR's settings.
