Hi all,

One of the coworkers is selling his Rega P2 turntable (no upgrades). Would there be a noticeable difference if I were to go from my Dual 1228 TT to this one? I'd be using the same cartridge - Shure M97xE.

Thanks!

That's a hard one to make a call on. How is the Dual build? Is it a suspended plinth? Is it belt driven or direct drive? Is it manual or automatic? How heavy is plinth? What kind and how thick is the platter? What type of tonearm does it have? How are the RCA cables i.e. cheap thin wires or well built?

That's all I can think of this early in the morning.

All subjective and unique to your rig but I can tell you Rega is dedicated to good sound and has customer service department you can depend on, as an example they are one of the few TT companies that actually factors in stylus drag when building their tables. That said the P-3 would be my first into a Rega, however, I have read some good reviews about the P-2 as well, I am not familiar with your present table so I would suggest doing the research.

Dual 1228 is pretty well built, it was 2nd from top of the line 1229 in its days.

    - The TT does have the suspension, belt-driven, 2-speed fully automatic.
    - The platter is not very heavy though (1.8kg/4lb).
    - Tonearm is stock (torsion resistant, tubular aluminium in self-adjusting pivot bearing).
    - I have rewired the stereo RCA cables with decent quality shielded AR cables and rewired the power cable.
