So... I'm replaceing my 51" CRT Rear Projection Hitachi HDTV since it appears the convergence is way out of whack. (Model 51SWXB)

If anybody here around the Rockford, IL area has any use for this TV, I'll give it to you if you can come pick it up. The colors are all still rich and bright, but I think the convergence chip went bad, which gave me an excuse to buy a new TV. Toward the top of the screen, the three colors are separated by and inch or so. So, PM me if you want a free TV to try to repair or mess around with.

And... If nobody wants it, does anybody have any idea how to get rid of an old, giant TV?

Put a 'for free' add on Craigslist. Someone will come and take it!
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Put it in the back of a truck and park it along side the road like you broke down. Someone will steal it. Just remember to get the truck moved before they bring it back!

That's pretty funny... but I'll have to steal a truck so that I have one to leave on the side of the road so that somebody will steal my TV.

Man I want it, especially if it would be a fairly inexpensive fix. I have a truck too, I'm just not sure about the 5 hour one way trip with a snow storm coming

It wouldn't work, everyone knows that Chevy trucks don't breakdown, you need to find someone with a Dodge truck :)

This thread will answer ALL your questions. Tell Bob what type of set and what the problem is and he will let you know if you can fix it and what it will cost.

Thanks. I just put it on Craigslist for free. If I don't get any bites there, I'll find out what it would cost to fix. Then, the next step.... Sawzall. ...or steal dkg999's truck and abandon it in southwest Rockford.

Take it out to pasture with lots of guns and ammunition. :D

Wel, that's what I'd do with it.

Well, I had 10 emails an hour after I posted it on Craigslist, so I guess I don't have to worry about how to get rid of it. Plus, my buddy came over and we hoisted the 300lb monster out of my basement. Gonna be sore tomorrow.

For what its worth, I've got an even bigger Hitachi monster that I've been eyeballin to put out to the pasture: a 57" Hitachi 57XWX RPTV. "Director's Edition".

Its upstairs, and to get it down, its going to have to be reduced to pieces (and it wasn't designed to be) or I'm going to have to take off my stairway hand rails as the previous Circuit City goons had to lift it above them to get it up there.

Boy did I get burned by technology!
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

Live and learn...but in their day those Hitachi HDTV RPTVs were some of the very best in the business...and at 1080i can still put up a damn good picture!

Too bad your convergence went out.....but now you can upgrade...so that's cool.

Yea... The picture stood up there with some of the better displays today with a little less contrast. I was hoping to sell my house in the next couple of years with the TV in it.

I have a PC connected to the TV as well and the overscan on the RPTV's are terrible for connecting a PC. You can correct with the video card, but at the expense of picture quality. So... I could have probably spent a couple hundred dollars to fix TV, but this was a good excuse to move up a few years .

You are really gonna need to use the sawzall/office space technique.
