TSi 400

I am looking at buying a pair of these as the main fronts in a 3.1 system. I will be replacing some vintage JBL LX 500's and moving them to the rear's to create a 5.1 system. I have listened to them and love the smoothness and tightness of the drivers. They will be partnered with a Velodyne 10" sub and JBL center channel. I will be using an Onkyo 803 receiver. I cannot afford anything larger money wise or size wise. Any thoughts, suggestions, words of wisdom? I have Cadillac taste on a beer budget, so please don't chew me up to bad. Thanks for any help.

The 400's are a good speaker. The only recommendation i could give is to get a center that matches if you can. Also if you like the 400's i would take a look at the monitor series as well. They are the older model of the TSI's and you can get them at a lower price from sites like newegg. They are very similar and you could probably get a better deal.
Overall good choice. enjoy.Front - RTiA5's
Rear - RTiA3's
Center - CSiA4
Sub - PSW110 -
Can you make a suggestion for a good center that will match up and not break the bank? I also like the looks of the 400's over the older versions.

Lots of Texans on this site! Maybe someone near you has a matching center they'd like to let go...Redneck is a good guy and has my recommenation!
Normally you'd use the CS10 or the CS20 for TSI-400s...they are voice matched. I recommend thinking about the larger CS20 it's very similar to the CS2 I have and the one that (Cheryl) runs with her M50s. Although the CS2 would work with the 400s, I'd stay in the series because it's such an attractive 'redesign' of the Ms...
Ok, boys....those of you running TSI-400s up front....SOUND OFF!!!

I would also recommend the CS20 as your center. It is important to keep your front three timbre matched and the JBL may not work well with the Polks. There are people who have "Franken-systems" here and ya never know, they may work. Try it out first and see how you like it, chances are you will want to upgrade anyway, because you will always be wondering what that darn CS20 would sound like, lol. You could also try the CS2, although it is more timbre matched for the Monitor series. Some people here have mixed and matched the TSi and Monitor series' with great sucess, since they are so "similar" spec wise, although there are the obvious cosmetic differences between the two lines, as cnh mentioned. The CS2 will run you about $119 from Newegg with free shipping and the CS20 will run you about $189 with free shipping from Newegg. Links below, good luck and keep us in the loop.

So I went to the Magnolia store down the road and it is not a Magolia store anymore. That sucks, as I wanted to hear those speakers and the center channel play together. I will just stick with what I have and hope it all works out ok.
Off subject alittle. I see wutadumsn23 has an address on a base. what is your current status, if you don't mind me asking. My younger brother enlisted and did his basic at Lackland down here in July and August. It was also a record summer for heat and humidity. He swore he will never come back to Texas in the summer again. He then got stationed in North Pole Alaska at that sac base up there. Said he could throw a rock at Russia. He was promised, if he signed up for four more years he would be moved out of Alaska. They lied to him. So at the end of his second hitch he was promised again they would get him out of there. He actually thought about it for awhile, but said no thanks.

being a tsi 400 and cs10 owner ill say, im very happy with the speakers, but i will say i wish i went for cs20 for a lil more "fullness" from the center. but powering these with a yammy rxv465 gets more then loud enough for the wife, could always be louder and better sounding for me though, but deff. satisfied with them.

I too love my TSI400 w/ CS10 set up.

Hey Bob, I am Active Duty Air Force stationed at Fairchild AFB in Washington state, about 15 miles West of Spokane. I have been in 11 years, and at Fairchild for almost 11. I went through Basic at Lackland in November of 98 and it was freezing, lol. When I went through it was still only 6 1/2 weeks and now i believe it is 8 1/2. He def. got hosed being stationed at the North Pole, but he should have been able to BOP out of there towards the end of his first enlistment as "First Term Airman" have priority, but I know I tried to BOP twice and it got denied both times due to budget cuts. Funny little side note, my wife is from Houston, well Stafford actually and still has family that live there. Man they lost their minds the other day when it snowed, lol. The AF ain't a bad gig, been all over the worldl, some good and some bad but all in all it has been a pretty good ride. I myself just got orders to Ramstein AB in Germany and am supposed to move there in April. Best of luck to you and thank you brother for me for serving his country.

Just wanted to chime in as a TSi400 and CS20 owner. I have had this setup for about a month now and am very happy with the performance. If budget is a concern, I would seriously consider getting the TSi400's from Polk's ebay site. That is where I purchased mine from and there were some very good deals going for the 400's (as low as $200 a pair). The speakers look and sound brand new and are backed with a warranty from Polk. I never saw any great deals on the CS20's from Polk direct and ended up getting that from Newegg.
