I just found some Model S6s by Polk audio at a good will for $4. Hocked them them up worked and sounded great. I was just wondering if any one knew how good these speakers where and what they might be worth. Any help would be great. Also on on a side note i was thinking about putting together a 5.1 system would these speakers be a good match to the LSI speakers?

Once you get your LSI's use the S6's for firewood:D They are not even close to being in the same league.

They won't be voice matched to the LSIs. But on that note, they probably wouldn't make bad surrounds, since you don't get a TON of info through those anyways. Try it and see if you like it.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

A guy I know had the s6s and with my onkyo amp they sounded real good. Next to some finer speakers , you would hear a difference though.
Great pr. for what you paid for sure!;)Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
ya thanks for the advice guys. will most likely use them as surrounds as long as they are not clearly inferior to the LSI.Monitor 60s, CS10 front

An old school veteran of this forum swears by his lowly S4 bookshelves....so there's definitly some love around.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Just hocked up the S6s with a pair of Monitor 40s, the monitors are much more accurate sounding, almost night and day. However S6s have much better bass, like its not even close. I'm rather surprised you would think maybe 10+ years separating them would put the monitors way ahead in every way. again thanks for the advice every one.Monitor 60s, CS10 front

Nothing like a little self promotion. Clue for ya, they aren't very good.Political Correctness'.........defined

The drivers and tweeter remind me (a little) of R50s, except they're not towers and have no bass port. So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

The S series was the more budget friendly line back in the early 90's. The LS series being the higher end. The engineer who voiced the S-series is actually a friend of mine. The S6 and S8 were the sweet spot. S10 was bass heavy.
I have a pair of S4 and they are ok but the port starts chuffing when they are pushed. Overall, I'm not impressed with them. They are serving as surrounds in my modest HT system.
I have a pair of S8 and on their own they do sound pleasant and are easy on the ear. They do now wow. I have them serving in my sun room. I also have the LSi15's which are vastly different. The S6 would not pair well with the LSi.
The the S4 and S8 actually pair fairly well with my RTA11TL w/RD0198 tweeters.Stan

Not even yard-sale acquisition material?Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists. -
Ok, thought I'd test the waters here with the pro's. Sounds like, no pun intended, that they are heading to the dumpster. Boo hoo. I have fond memories having these cranked up listening to RUSH Temples of Syrinx. Tough to just toss them. Really thought these would have some value.

I have them along with a Pioneer Stereo on sale as a package for $100 if anyone is a collector of this sort of stuff.

You can't sell anything here until you have 100 constructive posts. Read the rules, thanks.Political Correctness'.........defined

Working speakers should never be dumpstered. Drop them off at a thrift store. They are great starter speakers, even if they are not worth much.
I have a pair of Polk S4 I had connected as computer speakers. They were OK for that, but I have replaced them with better. I paid $20 for the S4 and could probably sell them for that or maybe a bit more, but that is not enough to make it worthwhile to sell. I will drop them off at a thrift store. -
I got my S8's for free off Craigs. One of the magnets had fallen off a tweeter. I snapped it back on and I enjoy them.Stan
