how to turn on Adcom amp

I am new to having an amp....picking up an Adcom 5503 tomorrow for my stereo and I want to know an easy way to turn the amplifier off without having to leave my easy chair. I am asking more for my wife than for me because she finally figured out how to use my audio gear and now i'm going to throw a monkey wrench in the whole thing. Is there a cheap way to turn one of these things on with my remote? The HK remote I have is not programmable so I am looking for a device that may add a trigger voltage to power it up.

As I said be kind please because I have never had an amp before and the wife is already not happy about things changing.....

    Well, if your AVR has an outlet on it, just plug it into that..outlet looks like the one in the image...otherwise there's no other "easy" way to do it.

    It's not a good idea to plug a high current amp into an AVR for power. The Adcom has a 3 prong plug anyway. Try this instead, it's $20 and it should be good to go for high current draw that your amp needs.

    If it's a high current amp then no....and for that device, he still has to get up and turn everything on....

    However. along the lines of above, you could get something like this to turn the amp on.....Remote controlled outlet

    Stupid question I'm sure, but does that HK have a 12v trigger? Does the Adcom have a 12v trigger turn on?

    The HK does, but it looks like the Adcom dosen't....

    Not true. Solid state devices live longer when they are left on. When I owned the Adcom 565s & the Parasound amp, I left them on 24 X 7.

    I have a Spectral DMC G preamp that doesn't have a power switch because it was meant to be left on 24 X 7. The same with a Timbre DAC I once owned.

    Leaving it on does drive up your electric bill though....although I guess you can attribute it to the cost of ownership, it's up to the original poster about that he wants to do.

    When left idle it draws very, very little current so the effect on the electric bill is insignificant.

    If you know how to solder it is a trivial matter to hook a relay up to that 12v trigger that will pass through 120v. Might have to search around to find a relay that can put that much amperage through it though.

    Thank you for that info. I knew that it wasn't a good idea to do that. It also wouldn't help me because the receiver says on the back 100 W max....The adcom says 1440 max right by the power cord. The adcom is also a 3 prong and the HK doesn't have the 3rd plug.


    About the 12V trigger...i was going to make one out of a A/C adapter set to 12V plugged into the receiver. I will just take the advice of some veterans on here and leave it on unless the power bill gets out of control.

    I leave both my 5ch Rotel on all the time except if I leave the house for a weekend or longer and the same with my 2ch Sonance amp.
