Another question about bi-amping the RTi-A9's.

The other day I asked this question about bi-amping the Rti-A9's -
"I know that the bottom posts are for the three 7" bass drivers. What I am not sure about is the the top posts. I know they go to the tweeter, but I am wondering if they go to the 5 ¼" mid range drivers as well. I am going to be sending 80 watts to each set of posts, and I think that 80 watts seems fine for the 7's, and maybe to much for just the one tweeter. However if the top posts do power the 5 ¼" mid range drivers and the tweeter I think it could sound great. Just looking for some conformation on the wiring set up. Thanks everyone."
One of the responses that I got stated that it would be better if I could put 80 watts to each of the 7" bass drivers. It got me thinking, and I am wondering if that would be possible? I have a 12 channel amp (30 watts by 12) and (80 watts by 6 bridged). I was going to use 4 of the bridged channels to run the towers (bi_amped) and the other 2 were for nothing. My question is does anyone know of a way where I could run each separate 7" bass driver with its own 80 watt bridged channel? So six channels, to six 7" bass drivers. Then I could use the extra channels (50 watts each) from my Harman Kardon to power the tweeters and 5 1/4's. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

To do that you're going to have to bypass the speakers internal crossover on the lowpass side. Then you're going to have to have a crossover point established for each of those channels of the amp driving the bass speakers. Then you are going to have to add enough binding posts on the speaker to connect to those drivers. And buy enough cables for wiring those amp channels to the speakers.
Certainly possible, but probably beyond the point of cost effective and into diminishing return territory. And a possibility of not really improving much or spending money and having something not work the way you expected.
I'd suggest using what you've got first and then deciding if highly modifying the speakers is your best route to improvement, or buying better/different components.
CoolJazzA so called science type proudly says... "I do realize that I would fool myself all the time, about listening conclusions and many other observations, if I did listen before buying. That’s why I don’t, I bought all of my current gear based on technical parameters alone, such as specs and measurements."
More amazing Internet Science Pink Panther wisdom..."My DAC has since been upgraded from Mark Levinson to Topping." -

To be honest i wouldn't spend the time or the money to do what you propose Now if you had a better amplifier then i would say give 'er a go! I'm thinking of doing it in the very near future with my a9's :cool:Media Room 7.1

Unless you have THE tiniest hands and/or robo-tools to get inside the A9, what you think of doing regarding using the three bass drivers independently isn't going to happen. You'd have to do some serious damage to the cabinet to get in there and do what you want to do. It's just too much hassle for such little improvement.
I'm going to give a +1 to having a better amplifier. That 12 channel amp is fine for tiny Bose crapellite speakers, but not anything to do with the A9s. Hell, even my Yahama HTR-5860 powers the A9s better than your 12 watt amp would. And that's saying a lot.
If you really want to bi-amp, get two extermal amps, preferrably in the 125-250 watt range. If you can afford it, a cheap (relative to tube amps and the like) way to go is two Adcom GFA-555 Mk II amps using one for the upper driver array and the other for the bass drivers, letting the A9s' internal crossovers do their job as they were meant to do. Use a Y-Splitter from your preamp outs (or pre-outs on a regular AVR) to each of the external amps. Just make sure you get identical amps. Mixing different amps will affect volume levels, and unfortunately, you cannot adjust the upper vs. lower volume levels independently on AVRs or even most preamps.
Just whatever you do, don't go the way you are thinking of going. It'll hurt you more than help you. And A9s aren't cheap. Best not to screw those up for a minimal gain. -
I just removed my CARVER M-400's. Bought a ROTEL RB-1090 demo under warranty. I put in 5 CD's and atleast 2 songs on each CD I heard instruments I didn't hear before. Vocal clarity was greatly improved. The A9's are bi-wired.Best money I have spent in along time. 380wrms really woke the speakers up! If you look hard enough you can find them for around $1,300.00. Not bad considering NEW 2K.

The 1092 is also a nice Rotel amp rated at 500 watts@ 8 ohms. That 1090 is a beast and a very nice amp. -

Sweet deal!
I experienced the same type of improvement's with each step i made after setting them up originally with my AVR
I have my a9's bi-amped/wired with a pair of xpa1's and must say DAMN!! Me likeyMedia Room 7.1
