Subwoofer Hookup to Amp

Hi...
I'm considering hooking up my sub to my new amp. I currently have it connected via 1 prong cable (1 to 1) and connected to my AVR's preouts. I have a 6 channel amp, and it says I can hook it up there. What do I need to do this? Do I somehow use speaker wire to connect my sub to the Amp?
The sub is the Definitive Technology Prosub 800, and the amp is a Parasound HCA 806.
Thanks,
James
