Took this muley openening day and the whitetail was shot from the same stand the next night. A great start to the 2009 season.

    Nice! When's dinner?

I don't know why, but it always cracks me up to see deer with their tongues hanging out.
I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius. :D

A lot of energy transfer which is critical and blood loss.

I gotta confess. The last time I took a second shot on a deer was comical, well kind of. I hit him on the run from about 15 yards with a 20 guage slug. He folded up nicely and as I was going to put another slug in the bottom of my Franchi (one of my bird guns) he got up. I dropped that shell and shot him again. Guess where it hit him, the ****, no kidding. He ran maybe 20 yards and game over. The first shot was perfect and did him in, right thru the heart. Oh yeah, I was on my way to my stand when I heard a gun shot and this deer came running to visit me.

    Nice deer!
here this season sucked pretty bad. Hardly saw anything and most people I know didn't even come back with a deer, and maybe they saw 1 if they were lucky. Guess I'm going to have to come down to Kansas and hunt from now on.
Its sad that when I'm driving around where I live I see turkeys more than I see deer which is very very very disappointing for the area I'm at.

Nice work! Good spreads and some nice mass on those babies. Is that venison jerky I smell in the smoker? I was driving home last night in the Hill Country and had a whitetail that looked every bit of a 140 B&C chase a doe right in front of us...he was on a mission!
    Congrats!

Its funny that I spent many many many hours driving around Wisconsin and saw few deer. I know they are around and have a lot of area compared to New Jersey to hide in. Here they are everywhere and have no choice but to play in the street. I used to stay in Stevens Point when calling on some of the paper mills.

The Iowa opener is tomorrow. I am still thinking about going even though the back surgery was only 10 days ago hmmmmmmmmm to go or not to go? I have thought about it alot in the last couple of days wondering if I just sit in a ground blind and let everyone else push them around them call the buddies in to drag and load it up for me. Well I still have till morning to decide.
BTW nice very nice on the deer.

    Best regards

It was bad this season. The heard management team I think did a poor job and acutally over hunted our deer population. Normally I would see at least 1 or 2 out in the fields by where I live just eating or walking around. To this day I have not seen one deer out there, nor any of the fields around where I live. Thats cool that you stayed in point, did you used to go to Consolidated or Stora Enso as they turned into. Crazy how such a small world it is :)

We supplied Consolidated with a lot of their repulpable splicing tape. As I remember I stayed in a Best Western which was the nicer hotel in Point. Maybe one Go-Go bar at that time - the 90's. When in that part of Wi, I generally stayed in Wausau where one of my largest distributors is based. I have a lot of history in Wausau and some that can't be mentioned here/on-line thats for sure.
I should never have left Wisconsin.
