The title says it all...I think I am going to need to lay them down on their side. Will it impact their performance at all?

    No, all the sound will leak out! It's like laying a fridge on its side!
    If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

    Um, thanks? :D I take it the answer is not to worry about it? I want to make sure I have all of my bases covered prior to dropping this kind of money on a system.

    Do the RTI A Series taper in from front to back? That might be interesting laying them on their sides if they aren't perfectly square...

    The orientation of your head has nothing to do with it. The only potential problem is that most speakers are designed to shoot out sound to the left and right (not so much up and down). So, if you put them on the side and you are not in the sweet spot it should be more noticeable than usual. Still, It seems like a number of folks around here us LSi9s on their side for center channel duty. Give it a shot --- it cant hurt.

    RTi A have rounded and tapered sides, so laying them might be VERY interesting. If you are still stuffing them into the entertainment center, RTi A's unique shape may actually help you aim speakers at the ear level.

    It will affect their dispersion.

    If you have no choice but to lay them on their sides, try with the tweeters in and also with them out, see what sound better to you.

    The only problem I can see, is getting the books to stay on the shelf. With the shelf laying on it's side, you're basically going to have to stack the books up.

    err...wait...are we talking about speakers?:p

    he means try it with either both tweeters on the inside of the driver while on its side or try it with the tweeters on the outside of the driver ie

    o = tweeter
    O = driver

    Oo Center oO or oO Center Oo
    Main 2ch -
    BlueSound Node->Ethereal optical cable->Peachtree Audio Nova 150->GoldenEar Triton 2+
    TT - Pro-ject Classic SB with Sumiko Bluepoint.

    TV 3.1 system -
    Denon 3500 -> Dynaudio Excite 32/22

    Hmm...how about an RTi6 put on its side as a center channel?

    No offense, but if you have the speaker, why ask the question if you can try it so easily? You are the most important factor in your audio system. If you enjoy it, it is fine!

    He doesn't have them, this is a thread about which ones he should get, and the space where he needs them to be is in an entertainment center

    IF the speaker is right in front of you it should not make a difference. If you have lots of seating around the periphery of the sweet spot it might.

    You don't have any local dealers that will let you borrow an Rti6 (or the current incarnation.)

    LOL sounds like the wrong dealer if you are after an Rti6 sideways.

    You'll probably experience some imaging problems but nothing you should lose sleep over. Face hit on the best suggestions previously.
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Nothing will hapen to the speakers, but the imaging might suffer a bit.
