Build My System for Me!
Alright, so some of you may have seen my previous post about wondering if the setup that I had put together would work well or not. Well, there has been a slight change in plans. I am asking you for suggestions on what to get now that I have a better idea of where everything is going.
My criteria are as follows:
Fronts: Must be bookshelves. All of Polk's will fit where I am going to put them.
Rears: Must be in ceiling.
Center: No criteria.
Sub: No criteria.
Receiver: No criteria, other than I would like for it to have a second channel so that I can add two speakers to my patio.
5.1 system
Budget: $1,500

I would consider either Polk Monitor 40s or RTIa series for your fronts. the 40s you can get at newegg.com for 150 a pair and if you are patient the RTIa1 usually go for 170 a pair and the A3 for a little over 200 a pair on the polk direct ebay store.
if you go with the monitors go with the CS 2 for center and CSIA 4 or 6 center for RTIa bookshelves. no idea with in ceiling rears, but I do like my PSW 505 as a sub which newegg has for 250 shipped usually.
AVR, just about any $400-600 avr should do all that you need.Main 2ch -

Look around on craigslist, and in the classifieds here on CP. There's full rti set ups with A9's as mains going for around $1000. You should easily be able to find speakers fitting your needs for cheap. John's lsi selection would be perfect. Just make sure you spend a decent amount on your AVR and get something that is expandable with preouts.Home TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables

Here is the low-down on my basic 8.1 surround system I built.
I was able to buy a pair of SDA-1C'S, a Polk CS350LS center channel speaker a pair of SDA-CRS rear speakers, a pair of Moniter 5JR's as rear center channel speakers, and a pair Moniter 5's for the front effects channel.
I bought a Yamaha RX-V3000, a Yamaha MX-830 amp and a Yamaha M70 amps to power my system. The amps are for the SDA's.
Total money spent $1420.00 with my Pana-Max 5100 AC conditioner/surge protection I'm $5.00 over your budget.
I have a complete Yamaha DSP-A3090 7.1 or 5.1 system in storage along with 4 other pairs of SDA's."Make a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Light
