cabinet color didn't signify any difference...
More important is the version #...A, B, C or Series II

On the Monitor 5A, the mid-woofer is surface mounted and slightly overlaps the passive radiator. There were some other variations among the 5A's where the PolkAudio logo was mounted to the cabinet at the bottom vs some mounted on the grill. I believe all (wouldn't swear to it) the 5A's had a fuse for the tweeter while the 5B used a polyswitch and the Series II had neither.

The 5B and Series II have the mid-woofer recessed into the cabinet with no overlap. I never measured but the cabinet may be slightly taller than the 5A to accomplish this. Other than that, I believe the 5B and Series II cabinets are the same with the differences being in the tweeter and crossover component values.

to add....... some 5B's had a fuse and some didn't. I have 5B's and they have a fuse. I believe the very early monitor series with out the bevel on the cabinet had (2) fuses one for the tweeter and one for the mid-woof.

It never ceases to amaze me how many variants there are on a given model.

Early 5B's have a silver logo pin on the grill and later 5B's had a gold logo pin on the grill and as Skrol stated early 5A's had a cabinet without a beveled edge and had the Polk logo glued to the bottom of the cabinet.

are the front of your cases beveled?
I would say 5c's, since they don't have the fuse.
You might also pull the x-overs and compare the caps & resistors to the wiring diagrams.

No such thing as 5C's. If they have the gold Polk logo the sl2000 tweeter and no fuses they are late 5B's

If they have the gold Polk logo and the sl2500 tweeter then they are 5B series II.
