PSW505 or Micro Pro 1000

Hello,
I was looking at either PSW505 (250 now at new egg) or micro pro 1000 refurb for about the same money maybe a little less on Polk ebay store. Mostly for Movies and TV, some music, rock and anything harder.

What do you think? Is there others in the price range (or slightly higher) that would go better with my set up?

Room is about 7ft high and approximately 20x15 give or take a foot or so on each side. I should really measure it.

Onkyo TX-SR607
fonts: Monitor 70
center: CS2
surround: Monitor 30

Thanks

For HT I'd go with the 505. The micropro 1000 might not have enough output for your room size.

Thanks for the reply. What room size would you recommend for the micropro 1000. My measurements might be a little off. If they are off, I guessed to high. I like the size of the micropro. Also how would I know for myself what sub to room size? The 505 is 300 watts on 12 inch sub and the 1000 is 1200 watts on an 8 inch sub. Speaker size not watt rating for filling the room with sound? Also if I could afford about another 150 would the DSW Pro 600 be worth the price over the 505?

    Thanks.

I'd suggest dual DSW Pro600. I agree with Leroy that the MicroPro doesn't troll very low and while the PSW505 does hit lower, it's not a bass monster either. The Pro600 is a much better subwoofer than the PSW505.

Dual DSW Pro600 would defiantly be out of my range. Unless you think one would be ok until I could afford to pick up another. They are going for more on polk's ebay store than the micropro1000. Looking to spend 250 - 300 or less if possible. But could probably convince my wife to agree to 350, or forget to mention that I had to spend a little more.

I'd go with the 600 over the 1000 if that's the case.

if you have to go between the mircopro over the 505 I would choose 505 due to your room size. The 1K is a great little sub but for that size of a room the 505 would be ok, but like Doro said dual pro600 would be a better choice and even just one would be fine if you wallet can't extend that far for two of them for the time being.

So if I cannot spend the extra 150ish, it would be between the psw505 and micro pro 1000, I should go with the 505 because of room size? What room size would the micro pro 1000 be good for?

If I can afford the extra 150ish, go with the pro 600 and plan on getting another one at some point?

On Polk ebay store the 600 is going for about 150 more than the micro pro 1000. Two micro pro 1000 would be cheaper than two pro 600, but which would be better?

I like the smaller size of the micro pro.

12 inch sub is better than 8 inch sub?
Pro 600 before 505 and 505 before micro pro 1000?

If the room was closer to 15x10 (losing 5 feet in each direction) would that make the micro pro 1000 a better choice? I will have to measure the room when I get home and stop guestamating.

I don't believe the PSW505 is that great of a subwoofer, especially compared to the total redesign of the new DSW Pro series. A single DSW Pro600 already hits lower and unless you have some room correction or something to integrate dual subwoofers into your HT, they are boomy and cannot sustain a heavy low end without noticeable distortion.

The new lineup contains the best stand alone subwoofers Polk Audio has manufactured to date.

Doro is of course correct...the redesign has addressed the boominess of the 505....but it's still an 'adequate' sub for HT.....on a TIGHT budget....

If you can afford to certainly get the 600 but if you're really really strapped you could do a lot worse than the 505....try the entire PSW series for example...current and past?

I know what Doro is talking about because my very first sub was a PSW12....it would bottom out a lot and would distort at higher volume....but if you played around with it enough and didn't ask it to go below its 33 hz bottom...you could get by.

The same is true for the 505...and it has less distortion than other PSWs because of its back SLOT port...slot ports are the design of choice for mid-level Velos...and you STILL see them on the new DSW series...except they're on the bottom rather than on the top.

What the DSW has is not really more power..but it reaches LOWER by 3 db which makes a difference, and has a digital rather than a BASH amp 200 watts vs. 300 watts in the 505....but digitals are more efficient and in some cases more dynamic...the woofer itself is NEW and the assembly and so on....And the 600 will play LOUDER to a degree!

But. if you're new to HT...and you're wife is really on your case.....you'd be OK with the PSW505 for now...

Bottom lining it the DSW 600 is better but the 505 is OK and cheaper. Is that a good enough answer?

Update for the actual measurements. I am not great at guessing. 13x17 actual size of room.
Yes, thanks. Time to look/wait for a good deal on the pro 600.

No love for the micro pro 1000, 8 inches to small for a good sub?
