I am looking to other optoins than polk as i hear there subs aren't too great

budget is 500 +/- 100, ill pay the extra 100 if i am going to get significant gains out of it.

looking at the definitive super cube II they have them refurbs on ebay for 475 or the HSU vtf-2 mk3

Don't exclude Polk's new DSW series!

I've heard great things about them, and personally have a MicroPro 1k in my setup and it's way better than what Polk's PSW subwoofers used to be. They're pretty good dual-purpose subwoofers (DSW series) but if you want something else, HSU Research has nice dual-purpose subs as well.

The Polk DSW-600 is actually a pretty good sub in that range...it competes with the likes of Velodynes 4000 12" series and lower offerings by Hsu and SVS. You'd be surprised by its performance...

It is NO longer TRUE that Polks subs are not good. their subs in the 500 and up dollar category are quite good, and more 'musical' than many others.

That room is not very big so any good 500-600 dollar sub will not be challenged by its dimensions...

    What 'people' told you that?

The MicroPro imo are very musical subs and won't provide alot of output, however you don't have that big of a room so it shouldn't be a problem. I would go with the DSW series instead of the MicroPro if you're pulling HT and Music duty.

Hey just because this is a Polk site we're not going to tell you that HSU and SVS don't make great subs.....THEY DO!!

The PB12-NSD would be a great sub for you....I think you'd get more value from the SVS than a comparable Hsu...but that's just my opinion

The Hsu VTF-1 or 2 is also a possibility for you..

But another up and coming good cheaper sub is the Elemental Design A-2s or A-3s..

Or even the slightly more expensive A-5....a lot of sub for the money!

My personal choice woult be the PB12-NSD above.

I'd personally go with HSU research for dual-purpose. They've got the weight for a home theater sub and the speed and accuracy for a music sub :D

Haven't heard the ED brand so I can't say anything there.

nobody has any opinions on the definitive tech supercube II, i kind of have it narrowed down between that and the HSU VTF-2 mk. from what i have read the HSU does better double duty but the super cube is nice and tiny with similar, or even better output, there is a place on ebay selling them for 475 refurbs free shipping normally the supercube II would be out of my budget

I like Definitive Technology subs. I have not owned the Supercube II but heard one a while back. Very good sub.

Though for the money I always will say Sunfire True subs kick butt! If you keep your eyes open you can get a Sunfire for $500ish. I just picked up one in nice shape for $440 shipped off of ebay.

    Thuffman...

I had a feeling we'd be hearing about Sunfire by the end of your post...so by all means add them to your list...I've not really heard many Def Techs either....but a lot of people like them...they use a lot of passive radiator tech in those as I remember....sealed cabinets....The highest model Polks are a bit similar...like the DSWmicropro 4000....It ain't CHEAP!!!

Looking at the DSW subs the specs are very impressive.
