Hi,
I just purchased a Polk Audio - SurroundBar SDA Home Theater Speaker System, and I tried to set it up with Pioneer 5.1-Channel A/V Receiver VSX-519V-K, but it seems not work at all. So I would like to know does polk audio surroundbar compatible with this pioneer receiver or not? Please help me out, thanks.

I don't think the SDA surround bar is designed to work with AVR's. Where did you plug its Audio In RCA cable to at the back of the receiver? From Polk's website:

    Four models, thousands of uses.
There are four SurroundBar models to fit almost every application. Regardless of which SurroundBar you choose, be prepared to experience full-fledged surround sound from one speaker.

For the easiest application the SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater requires only a RCA stereo output from a TV, DVD play, or any source -- no additional electronics or wires are needed. It even comes with a wireless subwoofer and can "self learn" to work with your existing TV remote control.

If you already have a receiver and DVD player, or have your heart set on one, there are two passive SurroundBar models to meet your needs. The original SurroundBar is 42 inches long, while the SurroundBar50 was created to complement today's larger flat panel TVs. Both are available in either black or titanium. Just add a Digital Surround Receiver, a Subwoofer, your TV and you're ready to go!

If you want an easy all-in-one integrated system, and don't plan on using or don't have an existing amplifier, SurroundBar 360º DVD Theater is an all-inclusive Home Theater system that includes a DVD player, AM/FM tuner with integrated amplifier, and universal remote control.

Dmara - Incorrect. The SurroundBar 42 and SurroundBar 50 are both designed to be used with an AVR or Receiver. The SurroundBar 360 isn't and the IHT is also a little different. You hit on the right section for help and I just wanted to clear up a couple things.

Penyos - I believe you have the Instant Home Theater(IHT).....correct? with a wireless subwoofer? You're using the Zone2 outputs...do you have them selected in your menu or via remote control? The AVR may not assign the TV/SAT audio output to the second zone. Why don't you just connect the TV directly to the IHT like shown in the user manual?

1.Un-box the speaker bar and wireless subwoofer.
2.Connect the audio cable (which comes in the box) from your TV to the SurroundBar.
3.Plug the bar and wireless subwoofer to electrical power.
4.Set the bar in front of your TV (or mount it to the wall).
    5.Turn it on. You're done!
    6.How easy is that?
    7.No, really, you're done.

Yep, I got the Polk Audio SurroundBar SDA w/ wireless subwoofer. That's what I did Zone2 out set ON via remote control. Because I thought this surroundbar supports this pioneer AV receiver. Now.....I may think this AVR is defective...?

It does support the SurroundBar but I don't believe you can Zone2 the TV/SAT audio connection. Move your Cable Box connections to the CD Audio Input and see if that gets you sound from Zone2.

I wonder if l set to CD audio input, but how about the video would go? I have it connect to TV/SAT video/sound input for now.

Who cares about the video for the moment...swap the audio to another input. The video doesn't matter anyways, keep it where it is since it has nothing to do with the IHT.

Yep.....it's kinda funny becuz I end up got it connect to BD/DVD IN for the damn sound, but I cant control the sound volume via AVR itself. This is not what I want to see, so this AVR will be returned back to store soon.

If you connect it directly to your televison, what happens? If you connect it directly to your cable box, what happens. I'm trying to assist you since I'm not sure it's the AVR but perhaps something a little more simple.

I was just going through the different posts and this thread seems like a close match to my issue as well? I have a SHARP AQUOS which is wall mounted and connected to my DirecTV HDDVR via HDMI cable. I have successfully connected the Polk Surroundbar w/ wireless subwoofer to the audio out on my TV (Red and White cables) and it has taken over the sound and is much better than the TV speakers so I am happy. BUT... I also dream of adding my Pioneer 919 receiver into the setup. Ideally what I want is all the cables for my other components - DVD player (composite), cd player (analog) and WII (Component) to connect to the receiver so that everything can use this lovely soundbar. I do not want to run all these cables through the wall and to my TV? Make sense? Any ideas???

    Thanks - Tracey

    OP,

The Surround Bar SDA IHT is designed to be used standalone, meaning you should not use an AV receiver with it. We design the SB SDA IHT to be a self amplified system. AV receivers are generally integrated into a system where you need to amplify passive speaker systems such as our 42" and 50" SurroundBar models.

The main reason we do not recommend using the SB SDA IHT with and AV receiver is such that many AV receivers do not possess the proper setup and/or connection to feed audio out to the bar correctly.

On most receivers you need to have a dedicated FRONT LEFT and FRONT RIGHT Pre-out RCA connection to effectively connect the SB SDA IHT to it.

On many AV receivers just trying to use the Zone2 pre outs generally will not work properly, as many receivers will only relay a single 2 channel source via the zone2 connections, i.e. CD or Tape.

Kyle - thanks for the explanation. Could you tell me then from an audio expert perspective - is it possible to only use the Pioneer receiver as more or less of a switch? I would rather have my components plug into it and have it makeone connection to the TV rather than have to run all my cables through the wall to my tv directly. I am just trying to figure this all out. I like the lower profile of the Surround Bar SDA IHT and for our room the sound is good. But I REALLY don't want all my cables fed through the wall. I can figure it out by playing around with things but just wondered if you could tell me if, in theory, I can use the receiver while only using the speakers attached to the TV?

    Thanks!

Yes and No, the reason is that it would be up to the receiver wether or not it can relay all the audio to the TV, some receivers may stop the audio and not send it to the TV, others may. This would be something I would test or contact the receiver manufacture about. If the receiver does have this ability than yes, there would be no reason that could not work.

Kyle - I attempted to get the OP to do what you stated earlier but.....I must be on Pluto.

    doro,
your not on pluto:p, after pulling up the Pioneer receiver that receiver does not have FRONT L and R pre out.

And I believe that model Pioneer is one model that does not have an audio pass through out of HDMI ( to allow the audio to be sent to the TV and thus to the SB IHT)

I got the polk audio's surroundbar connected to back of the TV's audio output then connect other machines onto the TV as well. It's too much hassle for me with this pioneer AVR.
Thanks for all your kindly help.

I feel that Pioneer receiver is useless for this surroundbar w/ wireless subwoofer, just like what happened to me, so I returned it back to the store. I just connected the polk audio surroundbar to the back of TV's audio(red/white) output, be sure to setup(by remote control) your TV sound to the existing sound system instead of TV speaker, then connect your machines onto the TV's input ports. You could saved $$$ for doing this way. :)
