I just bought a Anthem Pre 1L that uses 4 6922 tubes. It currently has stock Russian tubes. Pre should arrive later this week.

Any thoughts on good 6DJ8, 6922 or ECC88 or or E188CC/7308s tubes to try ?

Being it is the holidays I will probably only get one shot so I need to make it my best shot.

Thanks,

TS

Are you moving the 750 and Carver out the setup or are you building a seperate 2 channel rig?

I wish I had a dedicated 2 channel but there is just no room.

For now it will sit in the corner with the Carver TFM-45. Depending how I like a tube pre it may be up for sale but I doubt the Anthem Pre is a long term keeper because I really like remotes but the price on the Anthem was good enough to try and see if I would later want to move up the chain.

I really like the 750 for the sound and features. Who knows !

Is the 1L very similar to the Pre2L? The reason I ask is, I changed out the two 2uf Caps and that made a huge difference in the sound quality. It opened everything up beautifully and made things a little more warm. If you have not done it maybe you should look into that too. I paid about $50.00 for the two Dynamicaps and made the modification in about 15 minutes.

My Pre2L has a remote. Even though its not the greatest remote it's better than not having one.

I am not sure if they are the same or not but I have sent Anthem an email for the schematic, they sent me one for the AMP 1. Once I get it maybe we could compare notes.

My AMP 1 has upgraded Mundorfs.

The Mundorfs are great and even better if they are silver/oils. I would have used them if I was able to find them when I wanted them in the 2uf value.
Maybe Doro knows about the Pre1 vs Pre2L and will chime in. I bet he does.

He knows everything :p I would venture to guess you have two 2uf caps in there and if they are not Mundorf oil/silvers you should swap them out for a pair.
I am going to call Sonic Craft and check if they have them back in stock.

The Mundorf caps and resistors are in the AMP 1 outputs (4). I would like the tweak the PRE 1L as well.

I received 4 Amperex 6DJ8 from Brent Jesse today.

They kill the SOvtek 6922 that came with the Anthem from new.

This has to be the most balanced my system has sounded so far.
