Monitor 7's use a bigger cabinet and bigger passive radiator.

The 7C's are 6 ohm, but depending on what version of 5's you have it differs. I have the matching 5b's and they are a little less than 6 ohm, but would not consider them 4 ohm like some of literature says. I think they tested closer to 5 ohm, and are noticable more effecient than the 7's. Bass is much deeper with the 7's, but the rest is about the same.

If you plan on using a sub, both are great options! Stand alone and speaker size not an issue, I would take the 7's

If your 5's are fine, then you'll be ok! I have 2 pairs of 7c's and really like them, they are great speaker's....the old rule, the bigger the cabinet space the deeper the bass.

I am sure this is totally subjective, but I love my 10s, really like the 5s and the 7s are good....I have only had a couple pair so maybe I just haven't had a really quality pair...and then there is that a, b, c thing that Polk has with so many of the Monitors....

That is the specs for Monitor 7 series 2, not for a monitor 7C...All Series 2 Monitor's were 8 ohm, while the older versions were 6 ohm. I attached the Monitor manual for the 7C and 5B, as well as the rest of monitor line. I hope it helps out!

according to Polk Audio Specs the 7's are 8 ohms

    That's the M7 Series II...the older 7's are 6 ohms nominal.

The only real differences between 5's and 7's are the cabinet size, and the 10" PR in the 7's versus the 8" PR in the 5's. IIRC, the 5's and 7's generally used the same MW's. The crossovers are basically identical as well, aside from the unpredictable variations that Polk is so well known for.;)
