Intelliflo Pentair Pool Pump

I need to replace my pool pump motor as it smoked Thanksgiving day
The cheap way would be just to replace motor, but the cost to run pump I consider the Intelliflo pump instead. Feeling the cost difference I could recover in a couple years or less in the difference in running. I confused on what model I should do.
There's a 4x160 which has 4 speeds but may have 8? with Intellitouch control which I own. 4 speeds could be just fine I can figure right now. Then there's a VF model which can be varied in speed by the Intellitouch control just not sure if the cost + of that pump justifies the difference over the 4X160 pump. Then I wonder if these pumps are the same as in pump, motor but are different by the motor controller only.
Does anyone know anything or use this pump?

You know, I was just about to suggest that to DJ myself: "You've just need to have your time to make research"..
Next long weekend you have, disneyjoe, you may want to consider dropping by Riverside, California and picking up some pool supplies. Maybe a Nokia phone ? It's been almost 2 years since your original post, so I imagine that you may been running low.
"DAD !"

Well I quest an update would be nice.
I replaced it with an Intelliflo VS pump which is controlled by the Intellitouch controller via a data line. The pump runs 18 gpm normal and 40 gpm if Solar, water flow, or deck jets or in use. All in all couldn't be happier with the setup, or the power savings over the old pump.
