So I purchased my BR player yesterday for black Friday and a few movies as well. Now I am currently using a fiber optic cable for audio. If I select DTSHD my receiver shows something like select 4 than shoes Dolby digital on the display if I select the other is goes to something simulator than to Dolby digital. So which one should I be using? Also in the setting of the player I can set what kbps and all what should all that be at?

Thanks for your help ahead of time.

Also the receiver does not have hdmi.

I am not sure the HD codecs can be sent over Optical unless your player decodes it and optical can handle it. If your AVR does not have HDMI then I doubt it supports the HD codecs.

I agree with that but either one that is selected it still works but I just want to know what it should be set on.

It doesn't matter what you select. The HD codecs cannot be passed over an optical or coax connection.

If you select the HD (DTS-MA or TrueHD) track the player will attempt to do an HDMI handshake and when it cannot, plays the associated core (DD or DTS) track.

You can manually select the standard track (usually DD 2.0/5.1). If you are playing a DTS-MA track, there is an embedded DTS track sometimes that is the lossy version of the HD track.

I though we went over all of this?

Thank you for your help, no not really went over it like you just did. So it tried to go threw a hdmi and when it is can not it uses the lower audio and sends it threw the fiber optic cable.

Your only other option to get HD audio will be if the Bluray player has 7.1 channel analog outputs. Assuming that your AVR has 7.1 channel inputs.
