Bass floating about 1ft above listening/seating position...how do I bring it down?

Like the title says: my bass is floating about 1 foot above main listening/seating position - what can I do to lower it? The bass is positioned for the best response, however it's floating. Any ideas gang?

Room treatments, bass traps, speaker positioning, listening position...experiment."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Try moving the sub to another location with the same phase setting. If this doesn't work, flip the phase and try different locations. All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed and third, it is accepted as self evident.

I'll give the phase a try - thanks! If that doesn't work, I guess I'm back to crawling on the floor!Living room:

It sounds like you have a null in the listening position. Change the location of the sub or [possibly] mains to correct the issue.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

Tell the bass player to get off the bar and back on the stage where he belongs.:D
Sorry couldn't resist. As others have already said try playing with the set up: location, phase. If you sit in a couple different locations does it sound the same (floating)? Set up is probably the best place to start because it's free, just can be time consuming and really not as easy as one would think. -

Sound like KASR is describing a null to me too. Very common actually. Not as easy to fix if you are committed to your listening position and/or your speaker placement.
You are going to have to move some stuff around. Null and hot spots... fun fun fun.-Kevin
