Hey guy's i'm looking at a dedicated rack to clean thing's up a bit and make thing's more "ergonomic" in my media room. I was looking at a couple option's from VTI as they seem to be reasonably priced, look good, meet my requirement's and offer the option to be filled with lead/sand to help dampen vibration's :)

So i just wanted some opinion's from the peep's if they are a good buy or not? If anyone know's where i can get something locally that would also be appreciated ;)

Here are the 2 i am looking at:

With either one i would have to add a shelf to accomodate all my gear :o

Thank's :)

I have a VTI rack I use for my two channel rig. It is filled with about 300 lbs of #9 bird shot. It is a pretty good rack but I gotta tell you their customer service is rough.

You are still going to have to isolate your components as the MDF they use is thin and is very prone to airborne vibrations.

    Thank's for the comment's :)

I thought the shelf's are 5/8" thick? Most of my stuff is digital so i *should* be OK? The TT will be on the top shelf and i'd really like to find a piece of marble/granite to place underneath it ;)

I think just by me getting most of my stuff off where it is now and onto a proper rack would be well enough for me ATM :) One of the main reason's i'm really looking at the VTI's are because they implement isolation cone's between each shelving section

How pricey is the lead shot?

Why/how would i need customer service for a rack? They seem pretty straight forward to me :o Remove from box, assemble as directed and enjoy :o

Don't forget that your CD/DVD player has a transport that is sensitive to vibration and believe it or not so are AVRs, preamps, & amps.

Yes, but as I said before the MDF is very prone to picking up airborne vibrations so you will need some isolation such as IsolPads or something along that line. Those "isolation cones" you are refering to are solid stainless steel and just isolate the crossbars.
How pricey is the lead shot?

Here in Delaware, it goes for about $40 per 25 lb bag. The reason is has become so expensive is that with gas prices up those heavy bags cost more to ship even if you buy bulk.

When I originally purchased my racks the crossbar welds were uneven and they gave me a hard time because they kept swearing it was due to shipping which was impossible. It was a factory defect and let me tell you I had to jump through some hoops to get them to rectify the situation.

I have a VTI rack. Excellent price. Very nice. Held some heavy assed amps with ease. Highly recommended.

They look flimsy to me. It doesn't make sense to invest in good electronics and speakers and then skrimp on the rack. My next rack is going to be one of these. Between these racks, and the Triple Point and Micropoint brass footers under all the equipment, you should be in audio nirvana.

As I said before, I love Mapleshade products. I've been eyeballing those racks too.

So far, everything I have bought from Maplehade has met it's adverstising claim. I expect the racks will also.

The only concern I have with their rack design is the spiked footers. While I am sure that is best for vibration, I bet it is a pain in the rear to move one of these things around once it is loaded.

You got that right in spades especially when you load the uprights with shot.

Anyone tried using silica sand as filler?

I've heard of using reptile sand which won't get moldy. IMHO sand can get messy.
