California Freedom From Slavery Act
November 9, 2009
Initiative HTML PDF
The measure exempts all residents, beginning January 1 of the year after their 55th birthday, from “all forms of State of California income and property taxes.” While the terms of the measure are not clear, we assume this exemption would apply to all personal income, property, parcel, and Mello-Roos taxes paid by residents over age 55. The measure also exempts heirs from any form of estate tax if the decedent was over age 55 at the time of his or her death.

PLEASE DON'T MOVE HERE. WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE. :D

The Governator is begging people to move there because he needs the tax base to try and make up for his budget shortfalls.

It sounds nice and all, but for a state that's circling the drain, a measure like that would be the final flush.

    Good luck, ya'll need it.

My guess is it will never pass. It did say it's an intiative. I mean didn't thye just raise a bunch of taxes that start taking effect next year there?

If by chance, this did get all they way through and became a law. California might be the next Florida.

This Initiative may pass as it is more in line with current thinking. By getting more people receiving benefits than tax payers who pay them, it's got to work right?
