Velodyne DLS4000R

Hi everyone.

So finally I bought a subwoofer, a Velodyne DLS-4000R. I´m very happy with with, however I´m having some trouble setting up the bass correctly. The thing is that it doesn´t have a volume knob, only buttons, and the remote. Normally there is a recommended volume setting in the knob but I´m not sure how to set it up at the correct volume.

I know is a matter of taste at some extent, but I´m constantly changing the volume for different sources, so I would like to try a recommended volume.

Thanks

Not following you...I have different settings for 2 channel vs. HT and I even tweak the HT setting if I want to run the sub 'hot'. I don't think there is ONE recommended setting for any sub, at least in my opinion..

Perhaps others disagree.....set the Velo to 12 o-clock or half volume and use the test tones on your AVR to tweak its loudness. Once I set my sub volume I don't bother with the sub anymore I use the AVR to adjust the signal...increasing or decreasing the base as necessary.

Well, what I want to do is precisely to set the volume at half, in order to adjust it. But I don´t know how to determine when the volume is at half, since it has no volume knob, but a pair of buttons to adjust the volume.

The only volume indicator is the blinking light at the front, but is a bit difficult to tell anyway

It seems they did this so you just give it a boost with the remote supplied with your sub. In that case I would set your receiver to zero and adjust your sub. if not it seems you will have to guess.

Over at AVSforum under subs and Velodyne there is guy there from Velo that is very helpful. From what I remember the number of flashes tells you what the volume level is set to.

It might be easier to set the sub and adjust the gain at the AVR. If you are constantly having to change your sub volume I would tend to think it is not set up right onm the sub or AVR, ymmv

Yup! Blue light on the left indicate's volume level, for example setting it at 3/4 or 75% would show 7 slow blink's followed by 5 quick blink's, setting at 1/2 or 50% would be 5 slow blink's and then solid, etc, etc....

Quite simple really, just make shure that you have the light turned on as there is a button on the remote to turn it off :o There is also volume button's on the plate amp if you look ;)

I suggest reading the manual if you haven't already as it is pretty straightforward to use :)

I find myself playing with the setting's often to achieve my "best" sound :o

YES they are correct the volume is measured by the blinking blue light. I believe the MAX volume is 99. I don't ever put mine higher then 40. It is killer at that volume. Play with it to see where you like it. Velodyne makes an AWSOME sub. Good Luck.
