A couple of days ago I laminate 16 pieces of 3/4"X3 1/2"X3' Maple and today I cut them into 12" X 17" blocks and ran them through the planer, joiner and sanded them down to get ready for some finish.

I made them for my SDA 2B's. I am going to spike them and sit them on my carpet over basement slab and then sit my SDA 2B's that I recently installed 3 through bolted bolts and T-nuts with spikes. I currently just have my speakers spiked on 2" thick bluestone slabs that are also 12"X17" and just sitting on the carpet.

I am looking forward to hearing if it makes a difference, and I am hoping it will be positive.

I will follow up with my findings as the project progresses.

Helluva idea. Leftovers from a job?

They will definitely look good and, I would think, sound just as good.

No Ben, I actually had to buy the lumber. They actually turned out pretty nice, I am quite pleased with the results.

I purchased 4" thick maple speaker stands with heavy brass footers from Mapleshade, and it made a big differance in the sound. Definitely clearer, in fact it was also brighter. At first I thought it was due to the tweeter being higher, and that might have played a part. I ended up reinstalling the speaker grills, and adding some Auralex foam behind the speakers, and that bought the brightness down while still sounding better. The speakers are PSB Synchrony One towers which replaced my SDA-2 speakers.

Later I upgraded my speaker wire and I realized the wire was a big part of the brightness as the new wire was clearer, but not as bright, and had better bass response for an overall sound improvement.

Anyway, Mapleshade says carpet over concrete is one of the worst things for speakers to be on, and that is why I bought the maple speaker stands. You should do fine if their 'theory' is correct.
