I should've known better than to look at Amazon's movie deals today. Just ended up buying the BDs of Dark City, Frailty, Constantine, The Mist, The Thing, The Departed, Braveheart, U-571 and The Ultimate Matrix Collection. Total cost: $135. That's an average of about $11 a disc.

And this is why I already own like 45 Blu-ray discs and have only had my player for a couple of months - a lack of self-control. Anyone else succumb to this foul stupid holiday and its rank consumerism yet?

When I got my BD player, I went through my 700+ DVD collection and pulled out every movie that I don't watch often, then traded them in for credit toward BD discs at Moviestop. I'm sure I got screwed on the trade-in value, but it cleaned up my room and gave me a good 30 disc starter collection of BD discs to spin on my Oppo (plus paid off pre-orders on like every good BD release through January). Made sense at the time!

Of course, today I found myself buying some of those same movies on BD because I thought "Ooh, I bet that looks amazing!" or "Ooh, lossless audio!" Stupid sales... They hurt my wallet!

I'm looking at the LOW, LOW prices of the BIG tvs. There is a price war going on big time.
I just put a new roof on my house and that hurt splurging on things that can wait till after the new year or into spring.
My wife just said we could count our change to help put towards a new tv..:D

True it is amazing to me to see how much prices have dropped and how quickly, it seems like just yesterday I was looking at rear projection TV's and now there basically obsolete. Plasmas were uber expensive when they were first introduced I remember a 30" model being advertised at $30,000  and now there practically giving them away which works for me. I guess living in the frozen wastelands has it's benefits one of the biggest reasons I have waited so long to purchase a HD TV was there was no HD programming available now that there is prices are reasonable even for a cheap bastage like me :D

    REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Yeah, the only thing that pisses me off is that 4 of the titles I just bought earlier today have dropped $1 in price since then. And yet, I'm still making out like a bandit, and there are supposed to be MORE titles going on sale tomorrow morning. Why do I get the feeling I'll be buying a few more? Heh...

amazon should give you a low price guarantee. I bought Star Trek for 20.99 and a day later they reimbursed me 1.00 because it dropped to 19.99.

I remember when they had a 30-day price guarantee...if it fell below what you paid for it within 30 days of purchase, they would refund the difference (though you, the customer, had to take the initiative). However, it was/is my understanding that they abandoned this 30-day guarantee some time in 2008.

Mike, did this transaction take place recently?

BTW, I had my first (and last!) ever "fight-the-crowds" Black Friday experience a few minutes ago, only because I really needed a 1TB external hard drive for saving FLAC music files (my laptop has less than 7GB left).

At the last minute (2am local time) I saw that Target had a Western Digital one regularly priced at $99 for $59. I waited in line for 20 minutes from 4:40 to 5 (the line ahead of me was huge) at the Culver City Target, raced in, finally located shelf on which they were to be found, after searching around for about 10-15 minutes in the electronics section (was told by an employee that I should wait in line with the folks who wanted GPS, cell phones, and Nikon Coolpixes, but this was wrong information in the end). Got the last one on the shelve. checked out by 5:25. So, I'm glad i got it, but from here on out its strictly on-line purchases. If I could have found this on line close to the price I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

Norm, Amazon does have a price guarantee still but only on pre-orders. If the price drops between when you order it, and the release date, they lower the price. I had this happen recently on my Fight Club Blu-ray, price dropped $2 in 2 days and I was charged for the lower price.

All I can say is that it's about time....Blu-ray players are reaching the magic 100 dollar price-point....and discs are dropping to less than half their original prices for many titles....Great news for everyone......

2010 will be The Year of the Blu-ray...the year it made it to the 'masses'.

I did the same thing on Amazon....

Decided it was time I finally moved to Blu-Ray. Got the entry level Samsung (P3600?), cause it streams Net Flix too and 9 Blu-Rays to start the collection. Got out for $239, pretty fair price.

I need to check the funds and see if I can get anymore titles while the prices are so low.

Hardest part will be finding a good spot for the new player in the HT rack.
