I have a Sony 250 watt dual 10" sub that was used for two yrs, packed up while building a new house & finally unpacked hooked up & NO SOUND. i used TC80i's in the new living room but didn't want to purchase a new sub. i checked with Sony & they want $114.00 to service plus shipping. Do I have it repaired or do I go with a new Polk & if so which one?

For that sort of service price I'd say it's most likely better to just get something new. Not sure how great the sony was but, right now on Newegg you can get a psw10 for 99 bucks... not that I recommend that sub but I'd imagine 2 of them would be ok. Otherwise a lot of folks are using the psw505 (250 from the egg). After shipping I'd imagine you are looking at around 175-200 total so you may as well go new IMO.

Bet you have the same model I had (model # SA-WX700). That is actually a very nice sub to be a Sony. Mine died as well when I went out of town for a while and had it unplugged. Turns out it is a unusual but common thing with that model after I did some online reading.
It is very easy to fix it if you do an online search of the model #. I think it requires replacing one part on the PCB. Hope that helps.:)

that is the model I have. I have no problem replacing a part on the board if i can find out which part. Years ago I built Heath Kit Amps, Tuners, Tv's etc. I'll start searching. Did you fix your sub or have it fixed. i do like the sub. Actually it had very little use do to my wife always telling me to turn it down. So I only used it when I was watching TV or a movie by myself.
Thanx Happy Thanksgiving -

I actually took mine apart and sold the subs on ebay before I realized it was an easy fix.
The subs are very nice quality and actuall look to be made by Peerless.

I would suggest using this excuse as a reason to buy a new subwoofer.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
