Warm Up?

I was at a audio shop about a week ago one that actually sold nice equipment. After talking to a guy there for about 10 minutes he brought up something interesting. He told me that when I power on my receiver even though it is not a tube amp, that you should allow it and your speakers to warm up for 5 minutes before cranking them up. Now I had hear of letting speakers warm up in a cold car but never heard of warming up a amp and speakers on a HT setup. He said by doing this you allow your circuitry to warm up and that helps them from getting damaged. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Some gear does sound better warmed up, but I don't know wtf your friend is talking about.

You should go back there and kick him in the teeth.

He is correct. When you first turn it on the temperature of many components jumps up past normal operating temp then back to normal. This only takes a few minute. So if you turn it on and crank it up at the same time there will be a few minutes where temperatures can be exceedingly high. Still, I'd kick the guy in the teeth as suggested previously. :)

Well he is not a friend as I said he was a guy that works at a audio store. But I just wanted to let everyone have a good laugh at him if he was wrong. Or explain why it was right.
