Who knows? But until they actually have a catalog of widely accessible music, it will be another niche format. I want so badly for something to be successful and I am fully willing to invest, but I don't listen to classical music.

Since BluRay can hold lossless high-res digital files at better than CD quality, I would like this to succeed. However, it also means new equipment will have to be purchased (what else is new).

So, if I wanted this in my 2-channel system I will need either

    1. A BluRay player with a SPDIF (or optical, but I would prefer digital coax) output for the files into my DAC
    or
    2. A new DAC with an HDMI input.
    or
    3. A BluRay player with an excellant built-in DAC to connect analog to the pre-amp.
    or
    4. Or a new pre-amp with an HDMI input.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

If I am not mistaken, in order to satisfy the labels, the BluRay stuff is encrypted. This means an HDMI capable DAC or internal decoding and an analog connection.

The latter is fine with me as I have a good player which I will eventually have modded into an exceptional player.

I know there is some good stuff out there on BluRay. But I can't spring for a Tom Petty box set just to get a Hi Res BD. Especially when I already have his entire catalog. Meh... maybe someday. :o

I don't mind the movies being encrypted, but if BluRay music follows the same model as SACD music then it is DOA. Especially when the same high-res files can be downloaded from authorized sites. The benefit of BluRay is it provides a hard copy for backup.

The new Tom Petty boxset has a bluray audio disc in it.

And it has about 62 songs on it. All 5 CD's on one Blu-ray disc.

Its time to move on guys because the future is now .Personaly I find this great because I have nothing hi-end yet so a pre with hdmi or a good dac with hdmi is somthing I look forward too
