What a lovely day today!

Lets see, I'm insanely bored right now so this will be a time killer and probably a fun read.
First off, the power is out in my server room here because we blew a main breaker and its toast. So I'm sitting here on my aircard in an empty office waiting for the electrician. But the day started lovely.
Last night I was feeling quite sick. I think it was from all the paint fumes and sanding dust from working on the house the night before. So when I got home, quite late, around 9pm, I laid down and turned on Dirty Jobs and must have fallen asleep.
Woke up at 3 AM. Normally I'm up at 7. Could not go back to sleep. At least I was feeling better. So I grabbed a bowl of cereal 'cause I was starvin' like Marvin and watch the rerun of Dirty Jobs. I must have dozed off again and woke up around 7:45 and a little late for work. No biggie, nobody is in today, it's the day before Thanksgiving.
So I take a shower, get dressed and skedaddle out the door. Yeah, that's about as well as things have gone.
I live like 1.8 miles exactly from the train station. It took me 45 minutes to get there. Two major accidents at two major intersections and a section on a main arterial road are shut down. They stand between me and the train station. At a 1.8 mile distance, I don't have many detour options. All the holiday traffic is routed through detours as well. Bumper to bumper everywhere.
I finally get to the train station about 10 minutes to 9 AM. Great, good deal! BZZZT! Wrong! Station attendant says they are running on a reduced holiday schedule. So instead of the usually 4-7 minutes between trains it's 12-18 minutes. I stand on the platform in the biting, wind-driven rain for 16 minutes. FINALLY! A train. I'm thinkin' I should have drove. Glad I didn't. We'll get to that in a minute.
Get on the train. We go 4 stops and the train sits a the station. Doors opening and closing, no train movage. Uhhh...WTF? Then the conductor dude walks past me going towards the back of the train. OK, now, really W T F? He comes walking back up front and a mechanic dude is squawking at him on the 2-way.
OK, doors close one last time and we move. Go two more stops and we pull in to the center track. Conductor dude gets on the horn and says everybody off, another train is 4 minutes behind us. Ours is disabled. Sonofa....!!!!
Fine, off the train, in the driving rain for another 8 minutes. Woo freakin hoo.
Wonder why I ain't gettin' no emails on the Crackberry?
Train comes, everybody piles on like the Culhanes. We get cruisin' again. We cross the the good 'ole Benny Frank Bridge and get two stops. The train stops at 9th Street, doors open, dsheeple trudge off, bell rings, door closes. We pull away about 15 feet and stop. WTF? Srsly?
10 minutes later a conductor dude gets on the horn again and says we are waiting for some other eastbound trains to clear the track ahead. We'll move in a minute or two. Bloody hell! Open the doors then! I could have walked the 10 blocks and been at work already!
We get movin' and finally I get to work at 8 minutes to 10. An hour and a half late. First thing I say is "Why no email?" To which I get "Power in the lab is out. All network traffic, the VPN and Blackberry service is down." Sonofa...!!!
So I get forced on to a conference call. Main breaker blew apparently. We are in Center City Philly. You'd think we could get a spare somewhere. No. Some guy in Manhattan is put in to action. He has to drive to Staten Island, pick up the part and then drive to Philly...the day before Thanksgiving. It's one of those days where the southbound NJ Turnpike turns in to a parking lot.
Oh yeah, that driving rain? Makes it worse. ETA is 3pm...HA! Yeah, right! Our only hope is if he's an NJ boy and knows how to get places and takes Route 9 to Route 72 to Route 70 and then picks up Route 130 to the Walt Whitman to I76, gets off at 30th Street Station and comes up Chestnut St. It's a roundabout way adding about 45 minutes on to the trip but at least it will be moving and quicker than sitting in the southbound traffic on the Turnpike. But he's probably a New York guy and only knows the Cross Bronx and L.I.E.
We're doomed. I'm gonna be stuck here, bored out of my skull, until 7pm at least.
Oh and why I shouldn't have driven? The gate card readers all over the building are out and the parking garage is down for the count. Can't get in or out and being as it's Center City, virtually no street parking is available unless I want a parking ticket and a tow to 9th and Filbert to make my day just freakin' peachy.
This blows.
Hope things don't go any worse.

Canadian customer has me scheduled for working Friday night, with conference calls tomorrow. They didn't seem to register it's a holiday in the states.
Don't worry. It will get worse. Stuff moving south tends to keep drifting that way."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
I hope you brought some Krimpets with you.

The way you worded this sounded like they all got laid off...I was like...you're miffed cause they kept you?!!?!"Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. I don't know if it's you or if it's me, but you have misread two of my posts lately.
I probably could have worded this one a little better.

Well, if I heard them right, it was an 8 phase breaker that blew. I'm assuming it was eight 200 amp phases but, it is a floor with server and mechanicals rooms so it might have been 400 amp phases. I'm not going to go pestering anyone since they are working on it but that is a massive amount of power. 1600-3200 amps. Crazy. Surprising it didn't start a fire but boy does it stink down there!Expert Moron Extraordinaire
