I know...I know...

To be honest, I've only ever heard one Cerwin Vega product, and it was a 12'' subwoofer I had for about a week. That being said, on another forum, this guy is going on and on about if you listened to CV's 10 years ago, it's different now. The new lineup is higher quality, etc. etc. I've listened to a number of people I trust tell me that CV is total crap. Has anyone actually heard the bookshelf speakers in the title: Cerwin -Vega VE-5M, and have any comments specifically on them. I told him I would demo them if I could find them and give them a listen. No interest in buying them, but he keeps going on and on, and getting mad when I talk about the reputation of Cerwin Vega. He called me a brand basher. I cried for an hour this morning I was so hurt.

Personally, I wouldn;t my time. Even if *that's a big if* CV has somehow raised the product line a bit...............I can assure you it's still pretty dismal compared to all of Polk offerings.

I'm just not sure what to tell this guy. He says his dad was into electronics, and he's had just about every brand of speaker in his house. He swears these are the best bookshelves he's heard, and told me that if I haven't heard new CV's in the last three years I'm missing out. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or not :)

I have a friend (actually my best friend) who has Cerwin Vegas and loves them.........but he really doesn't know anything different. A few years ago I did get him to buy a Polk PSW650 sub and now he says when he build his new A/V room he's going with all Polk.

His dad was big into CV's while he was growing up and as many of us we tend to follow brands/things our parents had. If it's easy for you to demo them, grab a pair and then if you have some Polks sitting around invite him over to hear the difference himself.

Aside from having a reputation for being a garage-blaster, CV's are actually not too bad sounding - I think that it comes down to to preference They are alittle on the bassy side, with little treble clarity - but the sound that they can generate is pretty impressive (especially their horn tweeters.) I think it comes down to preferences and opinions (obviously) I've heard people say that you'll like CV's if you like muddy bass....just like if you like ringing tweeters, get Polk! :D
