I've bought several refurbs from Polk Direct on E-bay. They're just like new, with absolutely no issues whatsoever.

As long as there is a warranty in place, why not save money?

I fully agree! If you are on a budget, refurb will allow you to get more for your $$ while warranty still covers for any potential problems. Yet, as mentioned above and in many other posts Polk provides you with the same friendly CSR along with some form of warranty on your speakers.

    Cheers!

I have purchased numerous refurbs from polk direct and they have all arrived in great shape. I would purchase from them again in a heart beat. I have heard good things about other companies but polk is the only refurb i have purchased personally.

I'm a fan of refurbs and open box as well!

Gotten some great deals that I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise.

Just be ready for **** return policies (depending on where you order from)

ok but, i cant use guarantees because i live outside of usa and send it back is like buy 1 new =P

For the people that say that in the past they buy 1 refurbished polk, the sound quality i suppose that is 100% but how good is the cosmetic condition?

all of what i am about to say is based upon the product having a good return policy, and my info comes from a repair man that does warranty work for memphis, polk, pioneer, kenwood, and alpine.

Typically refurbished electronics are in better working order than first run items, i know this contridicts all thoughts but listen to the explination he gave me. when you get a first run "A stock" item it has been built pluged in and ran through just a few checks to see if it works and then shiped out for sale. when you buy an item that has been sent back in a repaired typically it has been run through a gambit of test after being repaired and before being sent out for sale. b/c of this they typically have less problems since it has been put through a more rigorus quality control test.

+1 Polk refurbs...are like brand new! Backed by less warranty but as erprater1 says above....Polk repair staff has given them a thorough go over....so you'd be fine.

I've also bought refurbed AVRs....mostly Onkyo-directly from Onkyo and never had any real problems there.

Other than that I only have experience with Demos and open box items...again...all were in excellent working condition...that includes my office rig...that has two Polk TSi-300s and a mid-fi Denon, at the moment....why go bookshelf when you can have towers, I say!

While we all agree that refurbs are good Bang for the Buck the OP has a good point here. As we all know there is a slim chance that there could be some problem with the gear and if that happens, the warranty is useless for him since it wouldn't be a viable option $$ wise due to sending the defective to the manufacturer would be extensive.

    Cheers!

I bidded and won a refurbished Polk DSW microPro 4000 for $575 via Polk Audio Direct on eBay on October 31st. After unpacking, I put it on my bed and turned it all around to carefully observe: to my surprise, no scratch at all! I would buy refurbished items again through Polk Audio Direct icon14.gif

I also bought a pair of LSi9's brand new from sound_distributors via eBay on November 1st for $650 w/ free shipping. You can negotiate the price with this rock solid seller :)

Not sure if you are asking about Polk refurb in particular or refurbs in general. Most here that have dealt with Polk refurb units have commented on the cosmetics and performance as being no different than new. Of course it is a crap shoot, as far as cosmetics, they are something that was more than likely sold.

As far as performance, eprator pointed out a good point that refurb in many cases have been tested better than the new. This may not hold true for all repair centers but it is a good point.

As others have said, refurb, open box, "b" stock is a very good way to safely buy at good discounts.

Another thing to keep in mind even though they are labeled "refurb" what they really are is "returned" items. This could be anything from having a defect, samples given to someone for a review, samples given to a testing facility for some licensing or certification, and then what I call the human factor units. These are returned buy customers who changed their mind because they did not like how they looked in their room, found out it was larger than they expected and does not fit room/rack, did not read the manual and could not figure out how to operate/setup correctly and blame the unit to be defective, changed their mind about the cost and deceptively returned them as defective even though they were not.

Point being many refurb (not all) never had a defect, and have had minimal handling.

I bought mt rtia5's refurb from polk direct and they look and sound brand new. There isn't a blemish to be found anywhere. Honestly, you can't beat their prices and they come with the full warranty . . . why would you buy new?

My LSI 25's that were bought from polk direct arrived looking brand new not a single scratch anywhere on them and with the piano black finish that sometimes is hard to keep looking nice. Good luck and if you dont win the item on ebay you can always call polk direct yourself and see if they have any in stock.

    Best regards
