vm30s in front...RM705 to complete 7.1?

I just bought a pair of VM30s for a great price from newegg and I'm trying to figure out houw to complete the 7.1. I know the suggested path is vm20/vm10s/DSW600 but the prices for these items are really high compared to the price paid for the vm30s. I saw the RM705 surround system which has the speakers finished in piano black (like the vm30s) so that would help with the WAF but I'm concerned about the sound. I'd use the VM30s for the front L&R and the rm705 combo for the center, sides, rear and sub. Would this be satisfactory or a complete mess? This system would primarily be used for home theater but I'd like it to sound good for music as well. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    look at Polks direct store for the VM10s... they've been selling them for a pretty good price per pair. They're refurbs but many people on the boards have not been able to tell the difference between brand new and Polks refurbs.
    Main 2ch -
    BlueSound Node->Ethereal optical cable->Peachtree Audio Nova 150->GoldenEar Triton 2+
    TT - Pro-ject Classic SB with Sumiko Bluepoint.

    TV 3.1 system -
    Denon 3500 -> Dynaudio Excite 32/22

    I received my VM20 on Saturday and finished hooking up everything yesterday. Here's my set-up:

    VM30's = front L/R
    VM20 = Center
    RM6751 x4 = surround sounds

    My RM6750's are not as good as the RM705's and they pair nicely with the VM30's. The RM705's should sound and look great. You might be able to get 4 refurbished VM10's from Polk Audio for the same price. I bought my VM20 from the polk audio store and it looks great.

    I would think the most important thing would be to get the matching center channel from the VM line. The surrounds can be a bit different because timbre matching the rear speakers isn't as important, although is ideal.
    2 Channel/HT:
    Sony SS-M9 P's (ES version)
    Sony SS-M1CN Center Channel
    Polk RT800 Surround Speakers
    Odyssey Stratos Dual Mono Amplifiers
    TAD 150 Signature Tube Preamp
    Harman Kardon HK354
    Sony SACD Player

    Are you using the sub that comes with the RM6750 package? If so, do you find that sufficient?

    Call 800-3777-7655 and go to the sales department. When you get someone, ask for Jessica. She's their ebay listing agent and she's great.

    Great tip, I'll give her a ring this morning. What sub are you using in your setuP?

    I'm running a 250 watt kenwood sub right now. As soon as the wife gives me permission to buy a new one, I'll order the PSW505 from newegg.

    That is your best bet... As far as I am concerned, you need at least a VM20 as center for a good match with your V30s. If you are budget concerned, I'd suggest you get 2 pairs of VM20s and go with a 6.1 set-up; use 1 VM20 as front center, 2 VM20s as rear (or VM10s if you prefer) and the other VM20 as a rear center. You can add on later as budget permits. http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/vm/index.php?s=vm20#vm20
    Use it as a center channel horizontally, put it on the wall vertically as a surround, or use it as the main L and R speakers. It works equally well in all configurations. Use it as the centerpiece with VM30 main speakers...

    As far as subwoofer, the size of your room will determine what you need. If you can't get the 505 refurb at a good deal from Polk direct you should be in business otherwise a smaller sub should do fine to (you don't want to overpower those small VMs, that would be useless ;) )

    Cheers!
