My new speakers

Got a pair of TSi500s on Friday from Polk Direct. Huge improvement from my 1990 pioneer floor speakers. I've been blown away by the sound. Can't wait for them to break in.
I'm just a newb and just pretty much lurk here but have learned a lot from this forum and the great people on it. Big thanks to everybody:D. Really wish I would have started with this forum before I started building my first real system a little over a year ago.
I'm going to be upgrading to a new sub in January (hopefully, we'll see how the trip to Vegas goes the second weekend in January). I've narrowed my choices for a new sub down to 2. Epik sentinal or SVS PB12-NSD. Leaning towards the Epik. Don't know why just am. It's also somewhat local so I can pick it up. I don't think I can go wrong with the Epik or SVS. Anybody heard both?

Either sub will be a 'Great Leap Forward' from that RCA...Onkyo 606 will sound good with TSIs.
Nice system you're putting together there!

Congrats on the speakers!
Well, you got the right idea about Epik....they're just in crystal lake so I'd say give them a call and tell them you want to head out to audition their stuff! I know of a few polk members around here that have some SVS subs, they might just have to chime in. Nice to see some more members from Chicago.Truck setup

Here's a pic of side by of my old and new. Going to be picking up a gear rack in the next couple of weeks. Also with having a down firing port is it a good idea to get the 500s off the carpet? Maybe a floor tile or something like that?Panny 55-st30 plasma

I had a pair of 15" Yamaha "Barracks Blasters" (as I called them in the service) and made my move to RT800i back in 2002. Big difference in sound quality: Polks were tight and not boomy with a huge sound field. I don't know about the port on the 500s.

Welcome to CP and I would go with SVS. I have some of their gear now and it's great sounding with a low price.
As far as the down firing port, that would be preference. If you want to experiment with putting something under them, have fun! But if you currently like the sound you have, just sit back and enjoy. -

I remember being pretty inpressed with the TSi 500 at polkfest. good luck ith them
never hearn an epic sub, bt know you definitly will not go wrong with the SVS. dont write of fthe Polk subs either as they have really stepped up to the plate as of late in the sub dept.
oh, and trying the tile trick with the towers isnt a bad idea if they're on carpet. go for something hearvy if you can (a grenite place with some small remnants floating around) if not, the heaviest stone tile you can find at a home depot will do if its priced reasonably.Living Room 2 Channel -

Congrats on the new polks. The SVS subs are great, though I haven't had much experience with Epik. + 1 for the polk subs, not a bad way to save some cash, and I love my old PSW650.
