Speaker Advice - Klipsch XL23 vs Polk VM20

I'm putting together a complete new 5.1 HT package and have purchased everything except speakers.

My wife prefers wall mount L/R/C speakers and I'm OK with that. She cares more about the appearance than the performance.

I've been able to listen to some Def Techs and Klipsch Ikon XL23s. I really like the Klipsch XL23, but the Klipsch IKon XL23 / XB10 package is getting close to $3000 with a nice sub.

I have not been able to listen to Polk VM series, but am considering a Polk package that is similar in size and appearance to the Klipsch Ikon XL23 package. The Polk package would consist of (3) VM20s for L/R/C, (2) VM10s for surrounds, and (1) DSW-500 sub. This Polk package can be had for $1566 from reputable Polk online dealers.

I know I like the Klipsch Ikon XL23 package, but I'm leaning heavily to the Polk package as it is about half the price of the Klipsch package. I just hate to buy speakers without being able to listen to them.

I'd welcome any comments, opinions, or recommedations anyone may have on the Polk VM20 / VM10 package. I'd also love to hear comparision comments from anyone who has had the opprotunity to compare Klipsch XL23 to Polk VM20.

Speakes will be used in a 20' x 20' family room and powered by an Onkyo TX-NR807.

Thnaks for any help that you can provide.

Hello and welcome to Club Polk. The VM series is a great addition to an HT system, especially with what you have in mind. I have auditioned the VM30's in my house and I can say that for HT, they are a fantastic choice.

The dynamics for HT are well beyond what one would expect to hear from such a small speaker. Though I did not have such a good sub with my system, I have no doubt that you would not be completely satisfied with what you are planning on assembling.

One further thought....have you looked into the Polk PSWi225? The reason I say that is that you can place it anywhere in the room [or even behind a couch or half wall] and place it perfectly for the best acoustics to match your specific situation.
~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~
