ASUS mobo warranty

My main computer stopped working a few weeks ago. I came home, turned it on and it powered up, and that was it, I did not even POST. I built it in the end of Jan. '07. I contacted Asus after I went through all of the trouble shooting step. I was told that according to serial number that it was out of warranty. They have a 3 year warranty. I registered it right after I got it. SO they know when I purchased it. So now I am stuck with a mobo that is junk. This is the first Asus mobo I have ever used, and did so based on reputation, and the fact that some of the bigger companys use them in their computers. Is this the way that companies really do warranty work? It just does not seem right. I bought it just under 3 years ago, and still have a couple months before the 3 year is up from the time of purchase. Would it be worth while to contact the Attorney General as this does not seem like a fair business practice. I can not afford to buy a new modo for a 939 cpu let alone get a new rig. I am currently running a PII machine. I can not play any of my games. Trying to edit audio and video on this PII machine would be a joke, and the programs I have don't play nice with it.(which is what I do on the side to make a little coin). So does anyone know what I should do about this situation?

I would contact them again as the warranty is good from the date of purchase. I have had nothing but great service from ASUS. The one motherboard I had that failed was advance replaced within a week and solved my problem.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

From ASUS:
Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is Stacey and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.
In this situation, please clear CMOS as the following steps to have a try:
1)Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord.
2)Remove the BIOS battery.
3)Move the clrtc1(besides the battery) jumper caps from [1-2] to [2-3]
for 5-10 seconds, then put the jumper caps back to the original position, [1-2].
4) Re-install the battery.
5) Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer.
6) then, load default settings, save and exit.
If it is not helpful, if possible, please change or clean the other necessary components to test again.
If it doesn't work, according to the product S/N you filled in, I am afraid to say that the 3 years warranty for the motherboard was expired. I suggest you send the board to a local repair store.

You need to have the receipt to show the purchase date. Right now all they have to go on is the sn. No big deal.

Have delt with them many times, and they have always taken care of warranty issues as long as you have done your part correctly. Basically the warranty starts from proof of purchase ( Actual receipt ) ....if that is not available they default to date of manufacture...pretty standard procedure.
If you produce the receipt they will fix it/replace it for sure...The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
here is my reply to them
Dear Stacey,
Here is a copy of the invoice with the purchase date. I have sent a .html which can be opened in any browser, as well as a .jpg just in case the .html does not open for you. I have sent this to show you I have not had this for 3 years yet. I hope we can get this taken issue taken care of. I have heard good things about your customer service, and would like to see the same. I am sorry for the e-mail I sent to you the other day, but you assumed that I did not have an invoice when I did, nor did you even ask. I have heard many good things about ASUS and decided to give your products a try. I do like to spread the word about good products, and would like to be able to do the same for your company. I am also a system builder, and would like to be able to have the confidence to use your products in the future.
Thank you,

Honestly dude youre better off just biting the bullet and dropping $60 on a new motherboard. When I built mine I stayed away from Asus due to several complaints just like yours in reviews. Went with Asrock based on many more positive reviews.
This one for $60 will run your P2 rig and while it might piss you off to buy a new one instead of getting on under warranty, I think in the end it would be worth it more to drop the $60 now and having your rig up in running in a few days as opposed to fighting with Asus for the next 3 months.

I would love to, If money was not an issue I would be going with a core 2 quad with triple channel ddr3 and sata6. But money is an issue right now. I have been out of work for about 8 months now, and having trouble finding a job. I am also going through the process of being evaluated for a collapsed disk in my neck which pinches nerves and makes my hand hurt/numb/and drop things. Trying to find out if I am going to need physical therapy or surgery. I work with my hands so it's not a good thing, and makes it even harder to find a job. Besides I need a 939 socket mobo, one for a AMx socket would not work.

My X58 Asus board's been acting strange recently...won't boot, unless I unplug a few times, and reset. (this is in an i7 system built 3 months ago). This has never happened to my previous Gigabyte boards....-_-

um....ok. Contact Asus, then go play some Deus EX. Do you have it over clocked?
