Audio Cutting Out

Now as most of you know I have a new elite unit and love it. I have been pursuing getting a power conditioner and will probably soon have one. I live in a newer house about probably 9 years old. Now when I am listening to much and turn the ceiling fan on "speed high" the audio cuts out for about a second than continues. What could be the cause off this? I know it can not be good.

the ceiling fan is on the same circuit as the outlet your receiver is plugged into. increasing the amperage on that circuit should fix that.

You'll definitely be wanting a power conditioner if your ceiling fan is on the same circuit, especially if it uses a dimmer switch instead of a toggle switch, as those add a ton of noise to the circuit. The best solution would be to try to see if a different outlet has the same issues. If not, that's the cheapest solution right there.

Well I do not have a dimmer on my ceiling fan so that saves me some money. Do you think a power conditioner will correct this?

Do you have any other outlets in the the room? Are they all on the same breaker?

I'm not sure if a conditioner would fix your problem, but a UPS would.

From what I understand all my outlets and lights are all on one line. They go to a secondary fuse box upstairs and than goes downstairs to the main one.

Does the power actually shut off? If not, most UPS only kick on when the power is off, so that won't help either.

Seems like an odd issue. You might want to have the house wiring checked out.

You need a dedicated line for your gear.

Both of mine kick on when the voltage drops, it doesn't need to cut out completely.

My unit does not shut off it just acts like the audio input signal was lost and than comes back.

    as everone says ..
you need a dedicated line for the stereo .
A voltage conditioner wont keep the voltage up to par you would need a iaolation transformer (I got a 6 amp unit weights 40 lbs) it gaurantees to keep 117 volts .
But I would try and wire the fan to another circuit I dont know if moving the stereo is a option .
You could try plugging the sub in another outlet .
But motors do all kinds of havoc , it is known that if you plug a vacuum cleaner in the same outlet as your computer you could kill it .
They used to sell some "green" thing that plugs into a appliance that was supposed to save electricity .
I wonder if that would help your fan ?
I think the fan coming on creats a surge on your stereo .
Or it may produce a low voltage condition (under 90 volts turns off my panamax).
Maybe your fan is old and drawing to much power , see if other models draw less ?

Yeah, get that fan off the circuit. Either that or lose the Solid State circuitry that controls the fan. Either way should eliminate the issue.

I'm taking it that you have one of these.....

Maybe not the same one but something similar? If so, lose this controller first. Then look elsewhere. ;)

Don't use the fan or buy a UPS.

Then you need the fan on a separate circuit. The question about an open ceiling does not apply to you. You could, however, access the fan's circuitry and reroute it through the attic rather easily

I will have to talk to my Uncle to see how easily that can be done. Would it make any difference to run a new wire from the secondary fuse box directly to my outlet for the stereo?

Yes. That would be the dedicated line [kinda]. How easy it is and whether it's possible given the current configuration would be another question your uncle would have to diagnose.

The reason I ask is because I sort of have a front cross space that I can crawl all the way over to the other end of the house and access the fuse box. It would be pretty easy.

If you can add a true dedicated line to the rig? That would be your best bet. You would eliminate any and all issues at that point, short of power issues leading into the house.

I would get one rated for at least 1500VA.

Richard Gray recommended to me Eaton's line of UPS's. I'll check them out if my Belkin Hybrid UPS ever gives out.
