someone on CL is selling this cheap $20... it says it can drive 4ohm speakers.. thinking about getting some LSi7s at some point and was curious how well do y'all think they would work driving the LSi7s?

For $20, you really can't go wrong.
That said, i'm a little worried about the fact that it only has 4ohm ratings under "dynamic" power.
I'd honestly suggest if you're just looking for LSi7s and a 2-channel setup to save up for a dedicated 2-channel pre and a decent adcom at least.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

well yes.. but for 20 bucks. I thought why the heck not especially when I saw that the manual actually gave you 4ohm specs, but yah i was wondering about the whole dynamic power thing... I would only use it for 2 channel though... actually I'm thinking about going Assimilated's route and eventually picking up an HK 34XX series as he says they drive the 7's quite well. but the sony could be a in the meantime solution, if i go that route.Main 2ch -

Stay away. $ohm speakers will kill it. One of my bosses had the same one and ended up melting down with 8 ohm speakers. Was not abusing it, ran for about 7 hours at real low volume 5 days a week, and after hours It would get cranked quite loud for a bout five hours. Was not in a cabinet, was on a shelf with nothing else near it so it had plenty of air flow.

I completely disagree and think you should go for it. I have the Sony STR-DE965 (the step up from that one) as well as a Sony STR-D1015 (older, and nicer) Both of which have 4ohm-8ohm switches, and both of which I have been very pleased with. I bought the DE965 for $10 from a garage sale about 6 years ago, it was a couple years old then and it is still working great. Its actually the receiver pictured in my Monitor 100 thread. I have also really enjoyed the STR-D1015 in a paper cone 4-way system in my dinning room.
In conclusion for $20 you can't go wrong -
well its a moot point at this point for now:( as I was outbid on the Lsi 7's i was bidding on ebay.. it was labeled as LS17 so i was hoping it would slip past some people.. but it didn't slip by enough, but for 20 bucks it still might not be a bad pick up.Main 2ch -
