I know I saw postings on this before, but can't find them in my search. If a Driver freeze's up, can it be unfrozen somehow? or is it junk from there?

Just curious if there is a trick with magnets or something that can bring them back to life....Any response is appreciated!

Thanks All

Far as I read, no one's been able to fix a frozen driver although I can look for a thread that better helps to prevent this. It focuses on where the magnet/plate shifts.

Edit: Here you go, enjoy! http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87460&highlight=magnet+shift

Sorry but it's time to get a new driver. Depending on the model, Polk will probably have the driver. Tell them you are a member to get a discount. What driver do you need?

What up Blue Comet! I need (3) MW6503 driver's for my Monitor 10's that match my other monitor's...I just picked up set of Mint 10B's from a guy in Columbus, but it must be an early version than mine as it's slightly different. It also uses MW6501's, which I am sure are just fine but I want to keep everything stock.

I did take one frozen driver apart really easy by hand, but have no idea how realign it back....It was worth this post to see if it's fixable but I just need to find replacements. PM me if you can help

I have a frozen driver I have played with many times. I have been thinking of a way to make a tool to realign them, they had to go together in the first place so there has to be a way of making something to realign them.

    Lasareath,

    You have a PM

    TOOLFORLIFE

you might want to search for a site that sells replacement cones (a lot of times called recone) they tell you how to line up the voice coil/pole piece and the cone which would be pretty similar. You would have to remove the the dust cap and get some surround/dust cap adhesive

    Good luck,

I tried fixing my three frozen drivers once before. That didn't work so well.:o Maybe I just couldn't figure out how to get the jig together properly but I think it's more difficult than just making a cheap jig and moving the magnet back into place. I think you would need to go to a professional that has equipment that could align the magnets. That would likely cost more than just getting replacements though. If you do try the DIY route, let us know how it worked for you.;)

I love how seemless everything is. It is hard not to get lost in a movie or just keep listening to music. The subwoofers also complement the system very well. Explosions are unreal. It's as close as you ever probably would want to get to a real explosion.:D:cool: If possible, make sure all of the tweeters in your speakers are the same. My SDA's and Monitor 5Jr.'s have the same tweeters.
