I'm going to install my rear surround speakers. The speakers are to be bi-wired. Should I use a 12/4 cable or run 2 sets of wires 12/2 and join the cables at the amp.? Will I get better sound from the two sets of 12/2 or am I wasting money?

You'll see mixed feelings on this topic.
Some say the shielding of all 4 wires in a single sheathing is not enough protection so you should use separate wires for your high-pass and low-pass signals. But this is more for a bi-amping situation.
Since you are going to bi-wire, I think you should be fine. I use 12/4 wire with my fronts and center (my surrounds are not bi-wire/bi-amp capable), but I did run 12/4 wire to them in the event I ever move to different surrounds. -
12/4 IMHO.
