I am still hesitate to replace my SL1000 by RDO-194 after my Monitor 5 x-over has upgraded. Another concern is RDO-194 not a drop-in replacement for SL1000. The weight of SL1000 is quite heavy and solid build

This one's entirely up to your ears and set-up, so if you can get a chance to hear both, I would hightly suggest it. Most folks seem to prefer the RD0-194s to the SL-1000s, but I actually like the SL-1000s better. I have a set of RTA-12Bs with the SL1000s and a set of SDA 1Cs with the RDO-194s and I prefer the highs on the RTA-12Bs. It just sounds smoother and less metallic to me. Of course, I'm not sure how much of this difference in sound is due to the different crossovers in the two speakers. THe RTA-12s have a very sophisticated (for their time) crossover netework. Overall I like the SDAs better, but agian I still prefer the highs in the RTA-12Bs with the SL1000 tweets. It just goes to show everyone's results may vary.

I do not have a chance to hear both yet.:( Yes, Most folks here feel SL1000 is bright and RDO-194 is smooth. It's hard to justify which tweeter is better with different models (RTA-12B and SDA-1C). Or, it is the perference of taste. -
Thats a hard one to tell though I think in my case it is in the difference in models. I'm a drummer and l love to here a lot of detail in the cymbals, so highs are very important to me. To me the highs on the RTA-12B with the SL1000s sound much more natural, smoother, and non fatiguing, while still being detailed. They just sound more lifelike to me. The RDO-194s in my 1Cs do sound good overall, but compared to the 12Bs, they have a slightly metallic, non-natural sound. In other words cymbals sound real to me with my RTA-12Bs while they do not with the RDO-194s in my 1Cs.
I've read review after review stating how the RDOs were smoother than the SL1000s, so to me that says the difference I'm hereing has to be attributed to the crossover network in the 12B. I've spoken with a few other 12B owners who have or have heard the RDO-194s in various models of SDAs and they have noticed the same thing. This had led me to believe that I need to upgrade the crossovers on my 1Cs. I plan on letting Ben work his magic on these over the holidays. -

Apart from the cymbals, how do you feel the sounds of vocal on the RTA-12B with the SL1000s You could have the answer until the x-over of SDA-1C is modded;)
