Heard my first SDA2's tonight. wow .

I have the SDA-SRS2's and those SDA2's give quite a run for the money..

It seemed they were only missing the lower end and when he turned on the JBL-PSW1200 sub, nothing was missing..

I now see and heard what you all have been talking about. The smaller SDA's are pretty special too.:D

What SDA 2's were they? The kind with three MW's and two tweeters, or two MW's and a single tweeter?

My SDA 2A's are some excellent sounding speakers. They don't dig down as low as their larger siblings, but they can still surprise you with some very impressive bass performance sometimes.

I'm with Curt...pretty sure mine are 2Bs and, frankly I am SURPRISED by how low they can go with good amplification...I'd bet they can reach an honest 30 or so hz....or close to it and play that LOUD! Plenty loud in a smaller/mid room. The low end on larger SDAs is really about ROOM size...you wouldn't need an SDA monolith of 180lbs for a regular room and, frankly you won't have the wall length necessary to get them far enough apart from each other and from the side walls.

I don't feel that I need 'any' subwoofing with my 2Bs. (for 2 channel of course...HT you can always use a bit more for LFEs).

Agreed...I believe Polk rated them for either 36hz or 42 hz at -3db...I forget which. They seem like they can get a much lower in room response though sometimes. They'll really surprise you from time to time. Sometimes I could swear they'll dig down to a solid 30hz.

One of my upgrades next year is going to be an Adcom GFA-5802, and that'll be a BIG boost in power compared to my 545. I can't wait to feel the low end once they've got 3x the juice driving them!:)

I also don't feel the need to use a sub with my 2A's. I've found that my Monitor 7A's seem a bit more well rounded when I have the sub taking care of the information below 45hz or so...but there's no need for it with the 2A's.

Yup Curt, 2As are awesome. I totally creamed my self when I first got my gfa 555, the a little more when I got a gfp 555 to go with, the a set of pbj from the pre to the amp and straight wire from sacd to pre oh man I was in heaven. Ah the memories. Now they are being driven by a denon avr. No need for a sub on most music( I like the extra extension a sub adds to clasical and the extra thump for rap).

They can pull their weight in an HT setup with out a sub, but it does not hurt to have one for the sub sonics. Sda's provide a good foundation to build a HT around. I love it when people come over and watch a movie and I just have the sda's going and there like wow you have an awesome HT setup. Then I say opps and hit the button, the center, surround and sub come to life and you see their jaw hit the floor and bounce a couple times. Another good one to do is play music in 2ch and watch people look around and say oh, you have surround sound. Then tell them yeah, but it's just the two speakers playing right now. Of course they say something like then why can I here sound from the center and surrounds, and you tell them go put you ear by the center. Some of the looks you get are price less. You know I really love those bose 3-2-1 systems, compared to the SDAs You can really see how crappy dsp steering is and just how crappy bose is. Shoot for that matter hooking up the speaker leads to you **** sounds better than blose.

Just remember, friends don't let friends by bose. And bose really means
    buy
    other
    speakers
    elsewhere

His SDA2's have 3 mids and 2 tweeters. Very well balanced sound for sure. These also have the sl2000 tweets but they played fine with no harshness to hear of.

I had to replace my sl2000's in my SDA-SRs2's due to harshness.

I just saw a picture that had SDA2B that looked like his. The label on the back didn't have the "B" designation on it though.

Does the A series have the 2 mids 1 tweeter and B series 3 mids and 2 tweeters?

Also the spec. sheet said they had sl1000 tweeters in the B series. I thought they were the sl2000 fish eyes in my friends model.Do the sl1000's look like fish eyes too.
I know we can take one out later and check to be sure...;)

With my 1C's on some material I just feel the extension of the bass and never really hear the lower registers...........just a ripple of sonic waves tickle my insides and my butt; all tingley feeling :D

2B's are the last generation of 2 series SDA's they have 2 mid drivers and 1 tweeter (sl2000)

2A's also had (3) mid woofs and (2) sl2000 tweets side by side

2's had (3) mid woofs and (2) sl1000 or sl2000 tweets side by side

Personally I don;t care for side by side tweeter SDA's, but they still sound damn good.

    Hi Bill,
Since I was given the SDA-SRS2's and refurbished them somewhat, I've been a happy listener for sure. I've even tried to enlighten others to this newfound joy in my life.Just yesterday I had the cable guy(comeing around for a general concensus as to who has what on our street)sitting for a demo of their sound. I was ROCKING to Santanas' "She's not there" song. He told me when he walked up he really thought a live band was practicing in my speaker shack.

"There's no other speakers on?" is the usual statement I hear from them first. Then comes "there's so much detail" statement. Then the head shake of approval and then "What Model of Polks' are they again?"And they leave usually on a quest that they should get a pair for themselves some day . ;)

I just searched a little on here and see that sl2000 were used too. My friend thought his have the sl2000 for one is dead. I brought one of my RDO194's just to hear with all tweeters sounding. I did some reshearch the other night for him and saved some threads on his SDA's to email him. He's going to join the club soon too.

I'm going out to clean up my speaker shack now. ttyl.

    Thank you H9
I did tell him about the popularity of the stacked tweeters over the side by sides just for some common knowlege. So I guess he does have the SDA2's with sl2000 tweeters.

His SDAs are really brand new looking in all aspects and that might account for the tweeters sounding smoother than mine did.

I thought that the 2As had the same driver configuration as the 2Bs, 1 tweeter and 2 mids.

Could be, I don;t have my SDA compendium in front of me. I'm quite sure there are both styles which are called SDA 2A's during the model year change.
