I paid $100 for a pair of original Monitor 7's. A $50 pair made the "Deal of the Day" thread.

I wouldn't rely on that site too much...not all of the info there is entirely correct.

I'd say anywhere around $100 is ok. I've seen them go for as low as $20(what I paid for mine), and as high as $120ish or so.

If you can post some pics we can tell you what version they are. There were a few different tweeters used in them, and some small cosmetic changes over the years.

Hindsight is a ****. My suggestion is forget what you paid for them. If you like them, they are worth it. I think worrying about price should happen before a purchase, not after :)

Exactly! You have them now, no matter what you paid for them.

The Monitor 7's are some fantastic sounding speakers. I've got a pair of Monitor 7A's with Peerless tweeters, and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

They're hopefully going to be getting some crossover upgrades next year actually.

    Welcome to the Club Mikey.

But could you tell us what you paid or are willing to pay...and Monitor 4s would be worth less than 7s...so I think you have an answer there....look at the numbers Curt provides above and it should be clear.

Personally, I'd love to add a set of peerless 7As to my speaker stash at those prices!

here they are, about as mint as one can get I guess. The white stuff is paint.
The dust cover is discolored, like it had a beer spilled on it long ago.

$.02 - the upload process is sweet on this site :)

I'm still confused as to how to POst a Reply as there seems to be too many ways to the same thing.

Those have the SL2000 tweeters, so probably 7C. $100 is a very fair deal, not a huge bargain but you didn't overpay either.

i have a pair of 7Bs with Peerless tweeters that are very musical.

Of course, once you upgrade the tweeters and crossovers, they'll be even nicer. ;)

Yep, me too. 7B's and mine came with stands. They're in very nice shape, Peerless tweets and as you say, very musical. Bought them off craigslist from the original owner (he had the original receipt, owners manual and promotional brochure from Polk). He bought them new over 30 years ago! I paid $50. :D

Well you can rebuild crossovers and upgrade tweets....

I think it was around $90 for a pair of the RDO tweets, and crossovers can be about as cheap and as expensive as you make it.

You can get the tweets through Polk CS. Just give them a call and tell them that you're wanting to update/upgrade your tweeters in your Monitor 7Cs, and they'll give you the price quote, and can send them out to you. Make sure you tell them you're registered on the forums, you get a discount. :)

As for the crossover parts... you'll have to order those as well. Search the DIY forum here for "crossover upgrade" and such. There's a few threads with part numbers and advice/walkthroughs on how to do the 7Cs.

    People use Sonicap, Dayton, etc...

Would it be advisable to upgrade the crossovers even if the speakers are currently sound good? Will there be noticeable difference?

Yeah.. these things are old. Caps wear out, could stand to be freshened. You can only go uphill from where you are now.

Mine sound good, but my caps between the two have a bit more difference in readings than i'd like, so an upgrade/rebuild is in their future.

If you're truly happy with what they sound like now, and aren't curious to see if they could sound better, then don't worry about it. ;)
