And lately, it's the Dodge Caliber. Every time one of these pieces of *hit comes in I feel real sorry for the customer. I mean come on! the things' got 28,000 km and the tie rod is about to fall off and the table bushings are shot!

Chrysler doesn't know how to make a front end that can last a reasonable amount of time. Sure, all cars end up needing front end parts, but Chrysler in particular is notorious for this.

Anyway, just ranting.

Yep, we've had a few 300's with lower control arm problems, and yes, they had low mileage. They were still under warranty though and we told them to go to the dealer. We find these problems during routine inspections that we do on cars that are in for oil changes or tires.

Yeah, Chrysler makes about the best looking cars like the beautiful new Challenger, Ram, Charger and so on but theyre pieces of ****. Dont get it. Honda makes cars that last 300,000 miles but are so plain they almost put you to sleep when you see them. Chrysler makes awesome looking cars but the doors fall off as soon as you get it home.

CHryslers are a mixed bag. the OP is spot on re: the Calibre being garbage.......its the same platform as a neon, with the added weight of te calibre + horror show.

the 300's have front end issues to, particularly allignment. in theory that should carry over to the challenger since it was built using the charger/300 platform but I havent heard anything.

    Joe,

Think of it this way. I am assuming you work in the auto industry in some sort of repair department.

If every car was made to not break ever you would not have a job and no one could afford to own a car. I am not saying that they should not break down so easly but if a car was made to have less than a 1% fail rate you would not have work and no one could afford to buy a car.

Just a thought on the matter.

I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus RT (the first year for those) and the black paint has basically worn off on top of my car. I have always waxed and kept care of the body, but it still happened.

I noticed other Stratus' with the same problem.

Does Dodge skimp on the clear-coat or something..pretty sad

I have a 300C SRT-8 and the wife drives an '07 Jeep Compass.

The 300 has had an alignment done a at 5k and has been great through 40k. I changed the brakes because the stock brembo dusted and squealed like a stuck pig. I'm pretty hard on it (heads, cam, and 125 N2O) and it's snorted it all up no probs.

The Jeep is a re-sheet metalled Caliber and neither of us is terribly impressed with it. No major problems but just driving you can't help but feel like it was made very 'cheaply'.

I probably would buy all Daimler cars if I didn't get employee pricing on them.

Yes, I am in the auto repair business and yes, I need broken cars to keep my job. But in my opinion, NO CAR should require front end parts after so little mileage. They will all eventually get old and require service so there will always be work to do.

I just feel bad for the guy/gal that plunked down some hard-earned cash and has monthly payments only to find that a short time later, he's repairing it as often as the old clunker he just got rid of that he was tired of repairing.

Good and bad in all makes. I have a 2002 Stratus.2.7 dohc V-6 hauls ****! But 35K RH. wheel bearing. Thought that was bull ****.Out of warranty. Parked in winter and drove my 1991 Dynasty the rest of the time .MOST RELIABLE car I have ever owned. 2.5 4 banger-186,000mi. Only repairs , 1 head gasket . 2 water pumps. ( I use Mobil 1 in EVERYTHING ). Of course brakes and tires , But Indiana winter and salt eating the hell out of the body , but only in rear quarters. The A/C will run your a** out in no time flat. Only **** with Stratus is takes FOREVER to heat or get cold. I was raised to hate Fords , but I have to admit they really seem to be getting theyr'e act together.

Glad you pointed out the Mercedes connection... Mercedes was sued in a class action suit about suspension wear issues regarding the S class and E class sedans upon which cars you guys are talking about were based. Mercedes paid off owners of these cars in the form of a $5000.00 voucher towards the purchase of the next Benz. If I remember correctly, it also allowed owners to transfer(sell) those vouchers if they chose to do so. I may be wrong on some of that so don't take my word for it, but I know I got the basics right.
