I am ready to get rid of my cheap r50's for the rears and looking to upgrade. Im looking at the monitor 70's but leaning towards the rtia7's which I know are probably much better. My fronts are the csi5 and rti150's. What do you all think? Or should I go all out and get the rtia9's and move my rti150's to the rears. Which in fact are alot like the a9's just a few models old. I probably cant afford that option though. Help me decide please.

A9's on ebay through polk direct is what I would do. The A9's are hard to beat in the RTiA series.

I have the M70's as my surrounds with the RTIA9's for the front. It works well for me and I love having the A9's for the front. I got mine too through the polk direct and got some pretty nice ones. Mine did have a large dent in the front of the cabinet, but for the price difference it was hard to beat. Also there is a member on here selling his A9's but local pickup only. I would say the A9's over the M70's, but the A7's also work well.

I would like the a9's but they are quite a bit more than the a7's even from polk direct. Im thinking keep my rti150's for the fronts since they are not much different than rti12's or a9's and throw out my r50's in the rear and out in the a7's. But then again I think....If I get the a9's and move the 150's to the rear then I have upgraded my fronts and rears and not just the rears and would notice much more improvement. If Im thinking right. I will run my fronts with an emotiva xpa-3 and for christmas Im getting a upa2 to run my surrounds all of my pioneer elite.

The biggest IMPROVEMENT will come from your Front End...surrounds...yeah they're important but not as much as those front three...in fact I'd say that there would be more of an improvement just getting the Rti-A9s and keeping everything else the same for now....I, for one think that its a bit of an overkill to do towers in the back...why not get some decent RTi-A3s on stands for back there....might save some money and with a good sub you won't be out a small fortune?

Just my 2 cents....I like my M70s a lot...but I would go A9s if I were upgrading, go with the large center, and put a few A3s in the back.

I go with towers because i dont have a sub because of the apartment I live in. With towers I seem to get good enough bass for now. I would love a sub but dont want to get kicked out. lol another reason I go with towers is my crazy cat. I had fxi5's once on stands and he jumps on them and knocks them off the stands. He cant knock over towers. I also listen to 5 ch stereo so the extra umph in the rear is nice. Also if I bought smaller speakers I would have to buy new stands to put them on which adds to the price. To me I find towers all the way around sounds fuller as I set all my speakers to large but my center.

Sell the RTI 150's and get some rti 3's or fxi a6/a4 and put them on the wall. Find a cheap sub like the PSW10 to feel in the lower end.

I dont believe the rti3's and that little sub can sound as good as the rti150's. Have you heard the 150's.They sound more fuller, probably because of more drivers. They have just about as much if not more bass than that little sub. If I ever get a sub it wont be polk. I love polk speakers but as for the subs there are much better. Ill probably get an SVS or Epik.
Also I cant do book shelfs for rears beacuse of my cat knocking them off the stands.
Have you ever heard towers all the way around. Book shelf speakers cant compare to towers.
I just got a csia6 which is as far as I can tell the exact same as the csi5 dimensions and specs and all. But its in cherry which is the look Im going for. So now I have to sell my csi5 in black.
Having the 150's in the rear would be almost like having 4 rtia9's. That would sound awesome.
Ill probably settle for the a7's for now and use as the rears. Then eventually get the a9's then sell the 150's.
I actually would sell the 150's but not sure what to ask for them and have no boxes to ship them in. ANy suggestions. As I may have 150's and csi5 for sale.

I like my a9's over my a7's for front duty but they are power hungry  More juice = more pleasure :) Plus with the a9's you can get away without a sub for a while if you must, but again separate amp is required IMHO

My dad run's a pair of a7's in 2ch and they sound pretty good even just being powered by an older Pio vsx-812d or something like that  We are looking at getting a 2ch amp as he want's to step up a bit from the integrated power. Or lack thereof for that matter....

To OP, your post is getting a bit confusing...you think that towers sound fuller but you'd go with a better sub than the PSW10? Yet, your apartment is too small for a sub?

Hmmmm....sounds like there isn't a solution....a good sub WILL fill in all the bass/fullness you could ever want and make A3s sound damned good--almost like a real tower.

Subs can be configured to play less loudly, etc., Speakers can be screw-mounted on to heavier stands that cats would not knock over, and so on...

Love the A9s...for the sheer volume...and power....

I agree they are power hungry. I did have 2 emotiva xpa1's running my 150's and they sounded amazing. I since sold them and now use an emo xpa-3 for the fronts. I will eventually get xpa-1's. You can not beat them.
As for the other post. Yeah I know I dont want a sub because of too much bass but want towers for more bass....lol.....I believe that towers just sound better than a little speaker with 1 or 2 drivers. I like the full range sound. And also like to not have to use a sub and still have good bass response. I do want a sub one day. But when I do it will be a real sub like a svs pb ultra13 or an epik dynasty or conquest.
I must say when i had my 2 xpa-1's on my rti150's it sounded like I had a 12" sub. 500 watts at 8 ohms and 1000 at 4 is alot of power and totally transforms the 150's, or rti12's or rtia9's.
