Subs w/weight

I took 6 12"x12"x1.5" concrete paving/garden type blocks from Home Depot and painted them gloss black. (many coats, used 3 cans of spray paint)
One goes under each micropro2000 sub.
I used concrete adhesive to stick two of them together to put on top of each.
I used drawer liner stuff from walmart cut into 12" square pieces, it's made to put in the bottom of your silverware drawer or whatever to keep stuff from sliding around. I put a piece on the bottom of each base piece (between the floor and the concrete) and I used two layers between the top of the subs and the concrete.
The result?
No more jumping subs, creeping and crawling their way across the floor.
I can get them to as close to MAX volume as I care to get them (100+db) and they don't move.
The sound seems tighter overall. I'd like to ad even a little more weight, but this is just enough to do the job.
want to see more pics?

I should go back and fill in the paint a little, but I was in a hurry to enjoy them. I should also clean up that room a bit...

You might want to clean the room up a bit more next time before taking the picture ;) (The one with the shot of the TV)
Why is your TV on the floor?
What are the in-wall drivers behind the subs?
By the way, I've seen bags of lead shot commonly used to weigh down walking subs.____________________

I'm actually wondering now HOW loud the micropro can get and if you're really just overworking them. I'm borrowing a MicroPro 1000 (essentially the same thing as the 2000 minus gloss finish+mic) and it barely moves on my hardwood floor at high volumes. You're considering adding even more weight? I thought you added too much, but hey to each their own I guess.
Nice gear btw from what I saw in the closet!Truck setup

yeah I know it's a mess:) cleaning things up is on the list of things to do this weekend...maybe we'll get there..maybe not. I'm waiting for a couple more RCA cables to be delivered and some speaker wire so I can finalize running stuff through the wall right behind the TV. Which will make some more mess and I generally don't care to clean twice when I can just wait a bit and only clean once:)
TV is still on the floor because we haven't bought the stand for it yet. Not sure I really want it now anyway. We sit pretty low and things seem about right as-is. Gotta love 73" of screen.
The drivers in the wall behind the subs are 10"s powered by a 240 watt amp.
Bad idea.
Way too much vibration of the drywall/etc. I tried all I could to dampen it including more screws and about 60 sq feet of dynamat in the stud cavity. It helped and it was OK at lower volumes, but anything approaching proper volumes and I'd get stuff buzzing/etc. So I scrapped the idea and bought the Polks instead. Live and learn.
I don't know how the subs could possibly *not* move even under medium volume on a hardwood floor! The really vibrate without anything holding them down. They'd literally JUMP with bigger booms/etc. I'm really curious how you aren't experiencing that yourself.
the gear in the closet is my slowly but surely developing "hi fi on half a shoestring". Bob Latino-built Dynaco ST-70 in that pic, I like it quite a bit. Thankscustom HTPC, Maya44 USB DAC, Dared SL-2000A, VTA Dynaco ST-70, Tekton Design OB4.5's and Polk DSW microPRO 2000's -
Got my MP4k volume set at 25/40 and during certain movie scenes it moves on my
carpet . Couldn't imagine how much it would hop on wood floors. How does the dual 8's sound? Are you using them for music or HT? -
Using them for both music and HT. I'm still fine tuning the music side of the set up.
I've always found having only one sub to be annoying, I can always tell where it is and it makes everything sound unbalanced to me. I like the sound of two much better. I really like these little 8's, the bass is nice and tight and musical. They go low enough. IMO one wouldn't be enough bass for me, but 2 is just right. Nice and full even at lower volumes.
I have the volume set at 32 on them and my AVR has them dialled back to -14dB I think. Once my dedicated 2CH speakers come in I'll have to do some more fine tuning to keep the balance between the HT and music systems closer without having to readjust the settings on the subs.
I'm running the AVR into the LFE input and the 2 CH music preamp goes into the line-in.custom HTPC, Maya44 USB DAC, Dared SL-2000A, VTA Dynaco ST-70, Tekton Design OB4.5's and Polk DSW microPRO 2000's -
I got my 2 CH speakers (Tekton Design OB4.5) which sit just right on top of the subs. Tweeters are @ 36" from the floor, right where I sit on the relatively low memory foam bean bag couch.
These speakers are awesome. I have the subs dialled in just right, the sound is quite engaging.
They are very stable on the blocks with minimal vibrations coming up through the subs. I've also added a layer of Dynamat between the block and the sub and the block and the floor.
