Try it, I don't see why it would not work as I believe the SX1250 as amp inputs. You never know you may like it.. :)

I wouldn't suggest selling that Pioneer. You could use it the way you want but I don;t see the benefit. The amp section may be a tad more ballsy than the other receiver but I don't see too much there to make a difference in SQ. What speakers are you driving that makes you want a bigger amp ?

The sx1250 was rated at 200wpc RMS at 4 ohms. That's better than the Adcom GFA-545 that's driving my SDA's now...

The 1250 is not your standard "modern" receiver. I think it would sound quite good with the RTA 15tl's.

Yes, I think so too,but both of them together i can't see being necessary. But to each his own I guess,if it works for ya,fly with it.

'zippty', of course you can use your classic Pioneer as an amp. You may not get the volume levels and dynamics you would have by using a better amp, but the Pioneer is still quality stuff, and will work OK. I use a Pioneer SX-780 to drive my Polk Monitor 10's, and even drove Magnepan MMG's with it. These older stereo receivers were built much better, with higher quality than much of the current junk. You have nothing to lose by trying it out.

Is that derived from the Greek, "malaka" term?

SX-1250 is 165 wpc into 8 ohms (albeit 200 wpc into 4 ohms)

Decent vintage Japanese massmarket stereo receiver, but as a power amp one could certainly have done better then, and now.

Nice looking piece of hardware, though.

I'd take the Adcom every day of the week and twice on Sunday! Power ratings aren't everything and the stated specs back then were unbelievably fudged.

LOL, yes. My moniker is derived from the oft used Greek word, 'malaka'. A rather colorful word, at that. You can refer to your best friend as 'malaka' in a friendly greeting, OR you can call your worst enemy a 'malaka', using it as a derogatory term! Talk about 'dynamic range' in a single word!!!
