I have not been able to play these for a long time.....finally have a place to play them. Knew i had a bad driver....called Polk had them send me a new one.

The new driver has no "red" thing on the connector....but i hooked it up...just as the old speaker.

Just a note these speakers are from 1987....thats the date from stamped on the speaker.

I put it in played it for maybe 2-3 hours.....a number of different music
....no problem...put on Zack...... the replacement speaker...'POPPED"

Anything With Zack.....the speaker ...just Popped.........this is the new replacent speaker...the rest of the 1987 speakers worked fine.

I will call Polk on monday......but...lets just say I'm not happy about a new replacement driver...that dosn't even come close to the 1987 stuff........

Folks, this is Bobt. You know, the "spearker" cable guy?

The pop was probably his boyfriend hitting him over the head with a frying pan.

Original post is confusing at best but it sounds to me like you have your leads reversed on the replacement driver. I had the same "popping" problem on one of my drivers that had gotten wired up backwards during a recap. Try reversing the leads before you call up Polk's service dept.

Let me clear this up. The new replacement driver has no designation for positive or negitive. I just hooked it up the same way the old drive was connected. To be honest the new driver dosen't look as well constructed as the 1987 driver it's replacing.

It seemed to work ok for about an hour. I incressed the volume, tried different music. It started to pop...most notably on a Zack (Ozzy's guitar player) cd.

Is there a problem with some of these coming out cross wired from the factory? I assume these are being made in China, hence the not so great looking construction.

I could try reversing the leads.....but since it was running like this for over an hour....I get a bad feeling it did not do wonders for the vioce coil.

Sorry to threadjack but I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a list of the drivers used in the Vintage Monitor series. I didn't want to start a new thread just for this one question. Thanks!:D

Hello Driver_King, I think I found the closest thing to a list that will help you out. The schematics which include the model #'s of the drivers can be found here..... http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38755

Just scroll down to your particular speaker.

BTW, you don't have to threadjack a thread. If you have a particular question, chances are that someone else down the road might have that same question. In other words, feel free to post your question on a separate thread. That way, the question and answer are easily located for the next person that may have the exact question you did. Knaw'mean? ;)
